CANADA STAYS UNDEFEATED, WILL PLAY FOR PAN-PACIFICS GOLD

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Two first-period goals from Greg Westlake (Oakville, Ont.) propelled Canada’s National Sledge Team to a 3-0 shutout win over Team Pan-Pacific on Friday and to the gold medal game in the first-ever IPC Pan-Pacific Championship final on Saturday.

Tyler McGregor (Forest, Ont.) picked up a trio of assists in the game, while Dominic Larocque (Quebec City, Que.) was credited with the shutout win in goal.

After defeating their U.S. rivals on Wednesday, the Canadians wanted to end the preliminary round without a loss. They began Friday’s game with a bang.

After he won the opening face-off, Westlake entered the offensive zone down the middle and took a pass from Brad Bowden (Orton, Ont.) before firing it into the net to give Canada a 1-0 lead just 12 seconds after the puck dropped.

Westlake would double the Canadian lead with 90 seconds left in the first when he capped off a beautiful play from McGregor, who stripped the opponent of the puck before circling the net and finding Westlake left alone in front.

Canada dominated the opening period and outshot Team Pan-Pacific 9-1, sending pucks off posts and forcing goalie Kyle Huckaby to make numerous big saves.

After neither team scored in the second period, Canada made it 3-0 by again striking early at the start of the third period, this time thanks to Billy Bridges, who picked up a loose puck before deking and sliding it underneath Huckaby at 1:19.

The Canadians ended the game with a 19-5 advantage in shots on goal, going 0-for-3 on the power play, but a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.

Canada now awaits the winner of tonight’s matchup between the U.S. and Korea to find out who it will face for gold in Saturday’s final (5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT).

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Deux buts en première période de Greg Westlake (Oakville, Ont.) a mené l’équipe nationale sur luge du Canada à un gain de 3-0 sur Équipe Panpacifique vendredi et à une participation au match pour la médaille d’or du tout premier Championnat panpacifique du CIP, samedi.

Tyler McGregor (Forest, Ont.) a récolté trois aides, alors que Dominic Larocque (Québec, Qc) a été crédité du jeu blanc devant le filet.

Après avoir vaincu ses rivaux des États-Unis mercredi, le Canada voulait terminer sa ronde préliminaire sans subir la défaite. Il a amorcé le match de vendredi en lion.

Après avoir remporté la mise au jeu initiale, Westlake a pénétré en zone adverse par le centre avant d’accepter une passe de Brad Bowden (Orton, Ont.) et de décocher un tir au filet qui a donné une avance de 1-0 au Canada après seulement 12 secondes de jeu.

Westlake a doublé l’avance canadienne avec 90 secondes à écouler au premier tiers, lorsqu’il a complété un beau jeu de McGregor, qui a soutiré la rondelle à un adversaire avant de faire le tour du filet et de repérer Westlake seul devant le filet.

Le Canada a dominé le premier tiers et Équipe Panpacifique avec neuf tirs contre un, touchant le poteau à quelques reprises et forçant le gardien de but Kyle Huckaby à effectuer plusieurs gros arrêts.

Aucune équipe n’a touché la cible en période médiane. Dès le début du troisième tiers, le Canada a triplé son avance, cette fois grâce à Billy Bridges, qui a saisi un disque libre avant de feinter Huckaby et de le battre, à 1 min 19 s.

Les Canadiens ont terminé la rencontre avec un avantage de 19-5 au chapitre des tirs, maintenant une fiche de 0 en 3 en avantage numérique, mais étant parfait (4 en 4) en infériorité numérique.

Le Canada attend maintenant le gagnant du match de ce soir entre les États-Unis et la Corée pour connaître l’identité de son adversaire pour l’or en finale samedi (17 h HE/14 h HP).
