JOST’S FOUR POINTS LEAD GOLD OVER GREEN AT U17 CAMP

CALGARY, Alta. – Tyson Jost (Kelowna, B.C./Okanagan, BCMML) scored two goals and added a pair of assists to help pace Gold to a 5-1 victory over Green in the team’s first game of Canada’s national U17 development camp on Friday night.

“It [was] not just me,” said Jost after the game. “My linemates were great. [Michael] O’Leary and [Tanner] Kaspick were on fire today.”

The line of Jost, Kaspick (Brandon, Man./Brandon, MMAAAHL) and O’Leary (Halifax, N.S./Salisbury School, USHS) combined for seven points in the win.

Brandon Saigeon (Grimsby, Ont./Hamilton, OMHA) got Green on the board early, scooping up a defensive zone turnover and slipping the puck past netminder Evan Fitzpatrick (Lower Sackville, N.S./Newbridge Academy, NSMMHL) just 1:43 into the first period.

Gold answered back before the end of the opening frmae; Adam Mascherin (Maple, Ont./Vaughan, GTHL) beat goaltender Reilly Pickard (Halifax, N.S./Halifax, NSMMHL) and Zack Dorval (Hearst, Ont./Soo, NOHA) scored on a breakaway 74 seconds later after receiving a pretty pass from Jost to put Gold up after 2-1.

After a scoreless second period, Gold’s offense exploded in the third as the team, led by Jost, fired three pucks past Olivier Lafrenière (Bradford, Ont./York Simcoe, OMHA).  Jost found the back of the net twice and set up Kaspick’s single marker

“Kaspick had a great game, O’Leary had a great game,” said Jost. “We have great chemistry in practice and we brought that to the game today. Our line was clicking so that helped me out.”

Despite the lopsided score, Green outshot Gold 20-19.

Fitzpatrick stopped 11 of the 12 shots fired his way in the Gold net while teammate Joseph Raaymakers (Chatham, Ont./Chatham-Kent, MHAO) turned aside all eight shots he faced. In the Green goal, Pickard got in front of 11 of the 13 shots Gold directed at him while Lafrenière had three saves on six shots.

CALGARY, Alb. – Tyson Jost (Kelowna, C.-B./Okanagan, BCMML) a accumulé deux buts et deux aides pour aider les Or à remporter une victoire de 5-1 sur les Verts dans le premier match de l’équipe au camp national de développement des M17 du Canada, vendredi soir.

« Ce n’est pas juste moi », a dit Jost après le match. « Mes coéquipiers de trio ont été excellents. [Michael] O’Leary et [Tanner] Kaspick étaient en feu aujourd’hui. »

Le trio de Jost, Kaspick (Brandon, Man./Brandon, MMAAAHL) et O’Leary (Halifax, N.-É./Salisbury School, USHS) a accumulé sept points dans la rencontre.

Brandon Saigeon (Grimsby, Ont./Hamilton, OMHA) a ouvert la marque tôt pour les Verts, profitant d’un revirement en zone défensive pour s’emparer de la rondelle avant de la glisser derrière le gardien de but Evan Fitzpatrick (Lower Sackville, N.-É./Newbridge Academy, NSMMHL) à 1 min 43 s de la première période.

Les Or ont répliqué avant la fin du premier tiers; Adam Mascherin (Maple, Ont./Vaughan, GTHL) a déjoué le gardien de but Reilly Pickard (Halifax, N.-É./Halifax, NSMMHL), et Zack Dorval (Hearst, Ont./Soo, NOHA) a marqué lors d’une échappée 74 secondes plus tard après avoir capté une superbe passe de Jost pour donner une avance de 2-1 aux Or.

Après une deuxième période sans but, l’offensive des Or a explosé au troisième tiers. L’équipe, menée pas Jost, a tiré la rondelle à trois reprises derrière Olivier Lafrenière (Bradford, Ont./York Simcoe, OMHA). Jost a inscrit deux buts et préparé le seul but de Kaspick.

« Kaspick a disputé un excellent match, O’Leary a connu un excellent match », a dit Jost. « Nous avons une belle chimie lors des entraînements et nous avons transposé ça au match aujourd’hui. Notre trio cliquait, ce qui m’a aidé. »  

Malgré cette défaite écrasante, les Verts ont devancé les Or 20-19 au chapitre des tirs au but.

Fitzpatrick a repoussé 11 des 12 tirs dirigés vers lui devant le filet des Or tandis que son coéquipier Joseph Raaymakers (Chatham, Ont./Chatham-Kent, MHAO) a bloqué les huit tirs qu’il a affrontés. Devant le filet des Verts, Pickard a résisté à 11 des 13 tirs que les Or ont décochés vers lui tandis que Lafrenière a réussi trois arrêts sur six tirs.
