BRIDGES SCORES TWICE, CANADA BLANKS NORWAY AT SLEDGE WORLDS

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Billy Bridges (Summerside, P.E.I.) had two more goals – giving him five in two games – and Canada’s National Sledge Team posted its second shutout in as many days at the 2015 IPC Sledge Hockey World Championship, blanking Norway 5-0 on Monday.

Through its first two games, Canada has 10 more goals (22) than shots allowed (12).

Adam Dixon (Midland, Ont.), Greg Westlake (Oakville, Ont.) and Tyler McGregor (Forest, Ont.) all scored first-period goals for the Canadians. Dixon finished with a goal and two assists, while Ben Delaney (Ottawa, Ont.) and Brad Bowden (Orton, Ont.) added two helpers apiece.

Corbin Watson (Kingsville, Ont.) earned his second straight shutout, making six saves.

Coming off a 12-goal first period in its tournament-opening rout of Japan on Sunday, Canada again took an early lead, with Dixon showing tremendous patience before beating Norwegian goaltender Kjell Christian Hamar along the ice at 5:37 of the opening frame.

Westlake made it 2-0 on the power play just 63 seconds later, finishing a perfect feed from Bowden, and McGregor absolutely roofed a shot from in tight at 12:00 to put Canada up by three after 15 minutes.

Bridges got his first midway through the second period, picking up a loose puck in the face-off circle to the right of Hamar before dancing through a couple of Norwegians and tucking the puck around the goaltender.

Canada’s all-time leading scorer added his 153rd career goal very late in the third, playing give-and-go with Dixon on a two-on-none before sneaking a backhand past Hamar to finish the scoring.

Through two games, Canada occupies the top seven spots in the tournament scoring race, with Westlake (6-4—10), Bowden (3-7—10) and Bridges (5-3—8) holding down positions one through three.

BUFFALO, N. Y. – Billy Bridges (Summerside, Î.-P.-É.) a marqué deux autres buts – ce qui lui en fait cinq en deux matchs – et l’équipe nationale sur luge du Canada a remporté sa deuxième victoire par jeu blanc en deux jours au Championnat mondial de hockey sur luge 2015 du CIP, blanchissant la Norvège 5-0, lundi.

 À ses deux premiers matchs, le Canada a marqué 10 buts de plus (22) que le nombre de tirs qu’il a accordés (12).

Adam Dixon (Midland, Ont.), Greg Westlake (Oakville, Ont.) et Tyler McGregor (Forest, Ont.) ont tous marqué au premier tiers pour les Canadiens. Dixon a obtenu un but et deux aides dans la rencontre tandis que Ben Delaney (Ottawa, Ont.) et Brad Bowden (Orton, Ont.) ont ajouté deux mentions d’aide chacun.

Après avoir marqué 12 buts au cours de la première période de son match d’ouverture contre le Japon hier, le Canada a de nouveau pris les devants tôt dans le match. Dixon a fait preuve de beaucoup de patience avant de déjouer le gardien de but norvégien Kjell Christian Hamar d’un tir au ras de la glace à 5 min 37 s en première période.

Westlake a porté la marque à 2-0 pendant un avantage numérique seulement 63 secondes plus tard après avoir capté une passe parfaite de Bowden, puis McGregor a décoché un puissant tir à bout portant dans la partie supérieure à 12 min pour porter l’avance des Canadiens à trois buts après 15 minutes de jeu.

Bridges a marqué son premier but au milieu de la deuxième période en s’emparant d’une rondelle libre dans le cercle de mise au jeu à la droite de Hamar dans de se faufiler entre deux Norvégiens et de pousser la rondelle derrière le gardien de but.

Le meilleur marqueur de tous les temps du Canada a réussi son 153e but en carrière tard en troisième période à la suite d’un passe et va avec Dixon lors d’un deux contre zéro avant de déjouer Hamar d’un tir du revers pour sceller l’issue de la rencontre.

Après deux matchs, le Canada occupe les sept premiers rangs du tableau des pointeurs du tournoi avec Westlake (6-4—10), Bowden (3-7—10) et Bridges (5-3—8) en tête.
