  NEWBRIDGE ACADEMY SHUTOUT BY ALBATROS IN ITS FIRST TELUS CUP GAME

  RIVIÈRE-DU-LOUP, Que. – Raphaël Bastille scored twice and added an assist, Marc-Olivier Lantin had a goal and a helper and Tristan Bérubé stopped all 20 shots he faced as the Albatros du Collège Notre-Dame blanked the Newbridge Academy Gladiators 4-0 in the Monday finale at the 2015 TELUS Cup.

  Vincent Ouellet-Beaudry had the other goal for the Albatros, who earned the victory in their debut at Canada’s National Midget Championship after a 40-day layoff.

  Collège Notre-Dame held a 13-7 advantage in shots on goal in the first period, but needed until the 14-minute mark to open the scoring; Bastille kept on a two-on-one and beat Newbridge Academy netminder Matthew Williams through the five-hole.

  The Albatros doubled the lead very quickly, with Emanuel Aucoin winning the ensuing face-off and finding Ouellet-Beaudry, who streaked down the wing and scored just 12 seconds after the Bastille goal.

  Both teams turned up the offence in the second period, combining for 21 shots, but it remained a 2-0 Collège Notre-Dame lead after 40 minutes.

  Bastille struck for a second time 4:25 into the third period, burying a rebound after a Marc-Éric Bourque slap shot bounced out of Williams’ glove and onto Bastille’s stick for a 3-0 advantage.

  Lantin redirected a Wilson Forest shot past Williams with 4:35 left to finish the scoring.

  While he wasn’t nearly as busy as his Newbridge Academy counterpart, Bérubé was solid when he had to be, earning the first opening-game shutout by a host team goaltender since Red Deer’s Marc Boulanger blanked the Sault Ste. Marie North Stars in 2007.

  Neither team found any success on the power play; Collège Notre-Dame was without a goal in eight opportunities with the man advantage, while Newbridge Academy was unsuccessful in five chances.

  The Albatros try for a 2-0 start on Tuesday when they face the Strathmore Bisons in a 7:30 p.m. ET rendezvous, while the Gladiators meet the Regina Pat Canadians in a match-up of winless teams at 4 p.m. ET.

  RIVIÈRE-DU-LOUP, Qc – Raphaël Bastille a inscrit deux buts et une aide, Marc-Olivier Lantin a accumulé un but et une aide et Tristan Bérubé n’a rien cédé sur 20 tirs et les Albatros du Collège Notre-Dame ont blanchi les Gladiators de la Newbridge Academy 4-0 dans le dernier match à l’horaire lundi, à la Coupe TELUS 2015.

  Vincent Ouellet-Beaudry a été l’autre buteur des Albatros, qui ont signé cette victoire à leur entrée en scène au Championnat national midget du Canada, après une attente de 40 jours.

  Le Collège Notre-Dame a dominé 13-7 dans la colonne des tirs au but au premier vingt, mais ont dû attendre jusqu’à la 14e minute pour ouvrir la marque; Bastille s’est avancé à 2 contre 1 pour battre le cerbère de la Newbridge Academy, Matthew Williams, entre les jambières.

  Les Albatros ont doublé l’avance très rapidement, alors qu’Emanuel Aucoin a gagné la mise au jeu suivante avant de repérer Ouellet-Beaudry qui a foncé sur l’aile et compté seulement 12 secondes après le but de Bastille.

  Les deux équipes ont attaqué le filet adverse en période médiane, obtenant un total de 21 tirs, mais le Collège Notre-Dame a maintenu son avance de 2-0 avant le deuxième entracte.

  Bastille a fait mouche pour une deuxième fois à 4 min 25 s du troisième tiers, s’emparant d’un retour de tir frappé de Marc-Éric Bourque qui a sorti de la mitaine de Williams et abouti sur la lame de Bastille, qui a donné une avance de 3-0 à son équipe.

  Lantin a redirigé un tir de Wilson Forest derrière Williams avec 4 min 35 s à faire pour compléter la marque.

  Même s’il n’a pas été aussi occupé que son homologue de la Newbridge Academy, Bérubé a été solide lorsqu’il a été interpellé, signant le premier jeu blanc d’un gardien de but d’une équipe hôte depuis celui de Marc Boulanger de Red Deer contre les North Stars de Sault Ste. Marie en 2007.

  Aucune des deux équipes n’a connu du succès en avantage numérique; le Collège Notre-Dame n’a rien produit en huit occasions, alors que la Newbridge Academy a été infructueuse en cinq chances.

  Les Albatros viseront un deuxième gain en autant de sorties mardi contre les Bisons de Strathmore à 19 h 30 HE, alors que les Gladiators croiseront le fer avec les Young Nationals de Toronto à 16 h HE.
