  GRENADIERS SCORE SEVEN UNANSWERED, ROUT BISONS TO REACH TELUS CUP FINAL

  RIVIÈRE-DU-LOUP, Que. – William Leblanc scored the last two of seven unanswered goals and the Grenadiers de Châteauguay advanced to their second straight gold medal game at the TELUS Cup with a 7-1 semifinal win over the Strathmore Bisons on Saturday.

  The Grenadiers will face the Toronto Young Nationals in Sunday’s final (4 p.m. ET, TSN), one year after their triple-overtime gold medal game loss to Prince Albert in the longest game in tournament history.

  Antoine Morand and Maxime Comtois had a goal and two assists apiece for the Grenadiers, while Pierre-Luc Sanche and Jacob Lapierre had one of each. William Poirier had the other goal for Châteauguay.

  Shane Fraser was the lone goal scorer for Strathmore, which will meet the Regina Pat Canadians in Sunday’s bronze medal game (noon ET/9 a.m. PT).

  It was the Bisons who broke through first; a won face-off in the offensive zone ended up on the stick of Fraser, who roofed a wrist shot for a shorthanded goal midway through the first period.

  Lapierre answered for Châteauguay at 13:51, redirecting an Alexandre Desgagnés point shot past Strathmore goaltender Kurtis Chapman to send the teams to the intermission all even.

  Comtois extended his goal-scoring streak just 26 seconds into the second period, finding the back of the net for the eighth time in four games to give the Grenadiers the lead for good, and Sanche pushed the advantage to two just 2:28 later, hammering a one-timer past Chapman.

  Poirier scored on the power play with 5:47 left in the middle frame to make it a 4-1 game after 40 minutes.

  Châteauguay head coach Steve Hartley called a timeout to set up his power play early in the third period and it paid off when Desgagnés and Comtois set up Morand for the 5-1 goal at 2:14.

  Leblanc rounded out the scoring with two goals in the final 11 minutes, the second of which chased Chapman, who allowed seven goals on 52 shots. The Grenadiers replaced starter Kyle Jessiman as well, and Cody Campbell and Mikael Recine finished the final 7:40.

  Châteauguay controlled the puck for much of the game, finishing with a one-sided 55-20 advantage in shots on goal.

  RIVIÈRE-DU-LOUP, Qc – William Leblanc a compté les deux derniers d’une série de sept buts sans réplique et les Grenadiers de Châteauguay ont confirmé leur place au match pour la médaille d’or de la Coupe TELUS 2015 en l’emportant 7-1 en demi-finale contre les Bisons de Strathmore, samedi.

  Les Grenadiers affronteront les Young Nationals de Toronto dans le dernier duel à l’horaire dimanche (16 h HE, TSN), un an après le revers subi en troisième période de prolongation du match pour la médaille d’or contre Prince Albert, le match le plus long de l’histoire de ce tournoi.

  Antoine Morand et Maxime Comtois ont récolté un but et deux aides pour les Grenadiers, alors que Pierre-Luc Sanche et Jacob Lapierre ont obtenu un but et une passe. William Poirier a été l’autre marqueur de Châteauguay.

  Shane Fraser a été l’unique marqueur de Strathmore, qui croisera le fer avec les Pat Canadians de Regina au match pour la médaille de bronze (midi HE/9 h HP).

  Les Bisons ont été les premiers à toucher la cible. Une mise au jeu gagnée en zone offensive a abouti sur le bâton de Fraser, qui a décoché un tir des poignets dans la partie supérieure pour marquer en désavantage numérique à mi-chemin en première période.

  Comtois a augmenté sa séquence de matchs avec au moins un but après seulement 26 secondes de jeu en deuxième période, touchant la cible pour une huitième fois en quatre matchs, permettant aux Grenadiers de ne plus jamais regarder derrière par la suite. Sanche a augmenté cette avance à deux buts seulement 2 min 28 s plus tard, marquant d’un tir sur réception.

  Poirier a compté sur le jeu de puissance avec 5 min 47 à écouler en période médiane, portant le compte à 4-1 après 40 minutes.

  L’entraîneur-chef de Châteauguay Steve Hartley a demandé un temps d’arrêt en début de troisième période et cela a été payant, alors que Desgagnés et Comtois ont mis la table pour le but de Morand, portant le compte à 5-1 à 2 min 14 s.

  Leblanc a fermé les livres avec deux buts dans les 11 dernières minutes. Après le deuxième filet, Chapman a été remplacé, lui qui venait d’accorder sept buts sur 52 tirs. Les Grenadiers ont également remplacé leur gardien partant Kyle Jessiman. Cody Campbell et Mikael Recine ont joué le reste du match, avec 7 min 40 s à écouler.

  Châteauguay a contrôlé la majorité de la partie, terminant avec 55 tirs contre 20 dans la colonne des tirs au but.
