  ROUTLEDGE SCORES TWICE, TORONTO GETS FIRST WIN AT TELUS CUP

  RIVIÈRE-DU-LOUP, Que. – Max Routledge opened and closed the scoring, helping the Toronto Young Nationals earn their first win at the 2015 TELUS Cup, 5-2 over the Newbridge Academy Gladiators on Tuesday.

  Jake Joffe had a goal and an assist for Toronto, Nolan Regan added two helpers, while Dean Raymer and Justin Herman took care of the rest of the scoring for the Young Nationals.

  Tyler Brown and Morgan Barron found the back of the net for the Gladiators.

  Routledge finished off a beautiful set-up by Joffe to open the scoring 12:32 into the first period, snapping a shot just inside the far post past Newbridge Academy goaltender Matthew Williams.

  The Young Nationals doubled their lead in the final minute of the opening period; a pretty tic-tac-toe passing play finished with a feed to a wide-open Rayner, who made it 2-0 through 20 minutes.

  Herman pushed the advantage to three just three minutes into the second period, finding a loose puck in the Newbridge Academy crease and beating Williams, but Brown stripped a Toronto defenceman and got the Gladiators on the board 2:20 later.

  The Atlantic Region champions got a glimmer of hope when Barron scored the first shorthanded goal of the tournament to make it a one-goal game at 6:32 of the final period, but Joffe restored the two-goal lead just 50 seconds later.

  Routledge sealed the deal and got his second of the game with 2:11 left and Williams on the Newbridge Academy bench, hitting the empty net to round out the scoring.

  Neither team converted on the power play; Toronto was 0-for-4, and the Gladiators were 0-for-5.

  The Young Nationals look to take their record above .500 when they meet the host Albatros du Collège Notre-Dame in the Wednesday finale (7:30 p.m. ET), while Newbridge Academy tries again for its first win, this time against the Grenadiers de Châteauguay (noon ET).

  RIVIÈRE-DU-LOUP, Qc – Max Routledge a inscrit le premier et dernier but du match mardi, aidant les Young Nationals de Toronto à signer un premier gain à la Coupe TELUS 2015, par la marque de 5-2 contre les Gladiators de la Newbridge Academy.

  Jake Joffe a obtenu un but et une aide, Nolan Regan a accumulé deux aides, alors que Dean Raymer et Justin Herman ont complété le pointage pour les Young Nationals.

  Herman a porté le compte à 3-0 à la troisième minute de la période médiane, trouvant une rondelle libre dans l’enclave de la Newbridge Academy pour battre Williams, mais Brown a volé la rondelle à un défenseur adverse pour inscrire les Gladiators au pointage 2 min 20 s plus tard.

  Les champions de la région de l’Atlantique ont vu une lueur d’espoir lorsque Barron a compté le premier but en désavantage numérique du tournoi pour réduire l’écart à un filet à 6 min 32 s de la troisième période, mais Joffe a redonné une priorité de deux buts à son équipe seulement 50 secondes plus tard.

  Routledge a scellé l’issue du match avec son deuxième de la journée, alors qu’il restait 2 min 11 s au cadran et que Williams avait été rappelé au banc de la Newbridge Academy, tirant la rondelle dans une cage abandonnée.

  Aucune des deux équipes n’a produit quelque chose en avantage numérique; 0 en 4 pour Toronto et 0 en 5 pour les Gladiators.

  Les Young Nationals tenteront d’avoir une fiche gagnante à l’occasion d’un match contre les hôtes, les Albatros du Collège Notre-Dame, au dernier duel à l’horaire mercredi (19 h 30 HE). La Newbridge Academy visera encore un premier gain, cette fois contre les Grenadiers de Châteauguay (midi HE).
