  ONTARO BLUE TAKES OPENER OVER ATLANTIC

  HUNTSVILLE, Ont. – It was a total team effort by Ontario Blue in its opening game of the 2015 National Women’s Under-18 Championship.

  Goals from Emma Buckles (Toronto, Ont./Toronto, PWHL), Shelby Wood (Cambridge, Ont./Cambridge, PWHL), Victoria Klimek (Orangeville, Ont./Stoney Creek, PWHL) and Alexa Vasko (St. Catharines, Ont./Stoney Creek, PWHL) – and steady goaltending from Nicole Cece (Oakville, Ont./Oakville, PWHL) – paced the team past Atlantic 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

  Cece stopped 25 of 26 shots and was named her team’s Player of the Game.

  Brooke Murphy (Balla Philip, N.B./Moncton, NBMAAA) scored for Atlantic. Lindsay Donovan (Miramichi, N.B./Rothesay Netherwood School, CAHS) added an assist. 

  Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, P.E.I./Charlottetown, PEIMAAA) made 24 saves in the defeat.

  Ontario Blue got on the board early. Only five minutes in, Rose Falzone (Nobleton, Ont./Mississauga, PWHL) brought the puck up along the boards deep into the offensive zone, before passing back to Buckles, whose rocket from the point cleanly beat Boutilier high short side.

  Ontario Blue continued on the offensive, keeping the Atlantic goalie both busy and company, applying plenty of pressure down low.

  The team doubled its lead late in the opening period. Some strong forechecking below the goal line led to open passing around the offensive zone. Wood’s shot from just outside the top of the face-off circle found its way through traffic and in.

  The lead grew to three early in the second. After several Ontario Blue teammates jammed away at the side of the net, the puck came free across the crease, where Klimek had an open net.

  Meaghan Hector’s (Georgetown, Ont./Oakville, PWHL) point shot early in the third was blocked by Boutilier, but the ensuing rebound proved too inviting to the relentless Ontario Blue forwards down low, with Vasko eventually sliding in the loose puck.

  Atlantic finally broke up Cece’s shutout midway through the third on the power play. Murphy received the puck in the face-off circle and shot top corner glove side.

  Atlantic is back on the ice early Thursday, taking on British Columbia in the day’s first match-up (10:30 a.m. ET/7:30 a.m. PT). Ontario Blue closes out Day 2 when it takes on Alberta (7:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. PT).

  ONTARO BLEU REMPORTE SON MATCH D’OUVERTURE CONTRE L’ATLANTIQUE

  HUNTSVILLE, Ont. – Toute l’équipe d’Ontario Bleu a mis l’épaule à la roue dans son match d’ouverture du Championnat national féminin des moins de 18 ans 2015.

  Des buts d’Emma Buckles (Toronto, Ont./Toronto, PWHL), de Shelby Wood (Cambridge, Ont./Cambridge, PWHL), de Victoria Klimek (Orangeville, Ont./Stoney Creek, PWHL) et d’Alexa Vasko (St. Catharines, Ont./Stoney Creek, PWHL) – de même qu’une solide performance de la gardienne de but Nicole Cece (Oakville, Ont./Oakville, PWHL) – ont permis à l’équipe de l’emporter 4-1 contre l’Atlantique mercredi après-midi.

  Cece a stoppé 25 des 26 tirs dirigés vers elle et a été nommée Joueuse du match de son équipe.

  Brooke Murphy (Balla Philip, N.-B./Moncton, NBMAAA) a inscrit le but de l’Atlantique. Lindsay Donovan (Miramichi, N.-B./Rothesay Netherwood School, CAHS) a récolté une mention d’aide.

  Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Î.-P.-É./Charlottetown, PEIMAAA) a réalisé 24 arrêts dans la défaite.

  Ontario Bleu a rapidement ouvert la marque. Après seulement cinq minutes de jeu, Rose Falzone (Nobleton, Ont./Mississauga, PWHL) a transporté la rondelle profondément en zone offensive le long de la bande avant de la remettre vers l’arrière à Buckles, dont le tir foudroyant de la pointe a filé directement derrière Boutilier du côté rapproché, dans la partie supérieure du filet.

  Ontario Bleu a continué d’occuper la zone offensive, veillant à ce que la gardienne de l’Atlantique soit toujours occupée et dérangée dans son travail grâce à une pression constante en fond de zone.

  L’équipe a doublé son avance tard en première période. Un échec avant soutenu derrière le filet a permis une circulation de la rondelle autour de la zone offensive. Le tir de Wood provenant tout juste de l’extérieur du haut du cercle de mise au jeu s’est faufilé dans la mêlée et dans le filet.

  L’avance a été portée à trois buts en début de deuxième période. Après que plusieurs joueuses d’Ontario Bleu se soient jetées sur une rondelle libre sur le côté du filet, celle-ci a glissé dans l’enclave, devant un filet ouvert pour Klimek.

  Tôt en troisième période, Boutilier a bloqué le tir de la pointe de Meaghan Hector (Georgetown, Ont./Oakville, PWHL), mais a accordé un retour de lancer des plus invitants aux intenses attaquantes d’Ontario Bleu près de l’enclave, et Vasko a fini par pousser la rondelle libre dans le filet.

  L’Atlantique a enfin réussi à mettre fin au blanchissage de Cece à mi-chemin du dernier engagement pendant un jeu de puissance. Murphy a reçu la rondelle dans le cercle de mise au jeu et a tiré dans la lucarne du côté de la mitaine.

  L’Atlantique joue de nouveau jeudi en matinée contre la Colombie-Britannique dans le premier affrontement de la journée (10 h 30 HE/7 h 30 HP), tandis qu’Ontario Bleu dispute le dernier match du jour 2 contre l’Alberta (19 h 30 HE/16 h 30 HP).
