  HALL LEADS CANADA PAST GERMANY

  ST. PETERSBURG, Russia – Taylor Hall (Kingston, Ont./Edmonton, NHL) scored twice as Canada improved to 4-0 at the 2016 IIHF World Championship with a 5-2 win over Germany.

  Tied 2-2 after two periods, Canada scored three times in the third to pull away and win its 14th straight game at the men’s worlds.

  Canada also got goals from Corey Perry (Peterborough, Ont./Anaheim, NHL), Boone Jenner (Dorchester, Ont./Columbus, NHL)  and Cody Ceci (Orléans, Ont./Ottawa, NHL).

  Derick Brassard (Hull, Que./New York Rangers, NHL) added two assists and now has a team-best seven points.

  Cam Talbot (Caledonia, Ont./Edmonton, NHL) made 17 saves for his third win.

  Through 40 minutes the teams were even on the scoreboard and nearly equal in shots on net (15-12 in favour of Canada).

  A goaltender interference call less than a minute into the third on Connor McDavid (Newmarket, Ont./Edmonton, NHL) handed Germany early momentum. Canada killed off the penalty, though, and 20 seconds after leaving the box, McDavid fed Hall in the slot for the game-winning goal.

  Morgan Rielly’s (West Vancouver, B.C./Toronto, NHL) point shot was tipped in by Jenner 3:38 later.

  The lead grew to three with 6:43 to play in the third. On the power play, Ryan O’Reilly (Varna, Ont./Buffalo, NHL) won the face-off and got the puck back to Ceci. The defenceman’s shot from a few feet inside the blue line went under goaltender Timo Pielmeier’s arm just eight seconds into the man-advantage.

  Canada initially took an early lead. Only 3:54 into the game, Hall sent a wrist shot from the face-off circle far side under Pielmeier’s glove.

  Germany nearly tied it later in the opening period. A Canadian turnover in the offensive zone sent the Germans on a two-on-one rush. The centering pass went off Gerrit Fauser’s foot and in. After review, the goal was waved off.

  In the second, Canada once again found the back of the net early, scoring 3:22 into the period.

  With only two seconds left in Canada’s first power play of the game, Perry redirected a pass from Matt Duchene (Haliburton, Ont./Colorado, NHL) to make it 2-0.

  Germany got one back just past the midway mark of the second. Marcel Noebels kicked the puck across to Patrick Reimer, who beat Talbot low short side from the outside edge of the face-off circle.

  Sinan Akdag, from just inside the face-off circle, picked the top corner far side to tie the game with 2:24 remaining in the second.

  HALL MÈNE LE CANADA À LA VICTOIRE SUR L’ALLEMAGNE

  SAINT- PÉTERSBOURG, Russie – Taylor Hall (Kingston, Ont./Edmonton, LNH) a marqué deux buts pour aider le Canada à porter sa fiche à 4-0 au Championnat mondial 2016 de l’IIHF à la suite d’une victoire de 5-2 sur l’Allemagne.

  Alors que la marque était égale 2-2 après deux périodes, le Canada a fait mouche à trois reprises au troisième tiers pour creuser l’écart et remporter son 14e match de suite au Mondial masculin.

  Le Canada a aussi profité des buts de Corey Perry (Peterborough, Ont./Anaheim, LNH), Boone Jenner (Dorchester, Ont./Columbus, LNH) et Cody Ceci (Orléans, Ont./Ottawa, LNH).

  Derick Brassard (Hull, Qc/Rangers de New York, LNH), qui a obtenu deux mentions d’aide dans la rencontre, est présentement le meilleur pointeur de l’équipe avec sept points.  

  Cam Talbot (Caledonia, Ont./Edmonton, LNH) a effectué 17 arrêts pour remporter son troisième match.

  Après 40 minutes de jeu, les équipes étaient égales sur la feuille de pointage et à quasi-égalité au chapitre des tirs au but (15-12 pour le Canada).

  Une punition pour obstruction contre le gardien de but imposée à Connor McDavid (Newmarket, Ont./Edmonton, LNH) moins d’une minute après le début de la troisième période a permis aux Allemands de se donner un élan, mais le Canada a résisté à la supériorité numérique de ses adversaires, et 20 secondes après avoir quitté le banc des punitions, McDavid a effectué une passe à Hall en zone privilégiée, et celui-ci a marqué ce qui allait être le but gagnant.  

  Le tir de la pointe de Morgan Rielly (West Vancouver, C.-B./Toronto, LNH) a ensuite été dévié par Jenner 3 min 38 s plus tard.

  Pendant une supériorité numérique, alors qu’il restait 6 min 43 s au chronomètre, Ryan O’Reilly (Varna, Ont./Buffalo, LNH) a remporté une mise au jeu et a remis la rondelle à Ceci. Le tir du défenseur qui se trouvait quelques pieds en deçà de la ligne bleue s’est faufilé sous le bras du gardien de but Timo Pielmeier seulement huit secondes après le début de l’avantage numérique. L’écart était maintenant de trois buts. 

  Le Canada avait initialement pris les devants dans la rencontre. À 3 min 54 s du premier tiers, Hall a décoché un tir du poignet sous le gant de Pielmeier du cercle de mise au jeu du côté éloigné.

  L’Allemagne a presque créé l’égalité plus tard en première période lorsqu’un revirement en zone offensive a donné lieu à un deux contre un allemand. La passe au centre a dévié sur un des patins de Gerrit Fauser pour se retrouver dans le fond du filet, mais après avoir étudié la reprise vidéo, les arbitres ont refusé le but.

  En deuxième période, le Canada a de nouveau fait vibrer les mailles du filet tôt, marquant à 3 min 22 s.

  Alors qu’il ne restait que deux secondes au premier avantage numérique du Canada, Perry a dévié une passe de Matt Duchene (Haliburton, Ont./Colorado, LNH) pour porter la marque à 2-0.

  L’Allemagne a réduit l’écart à un but peu après le milieu de la deuxième période lorsque Marcel Noebels a botté la rondelle à Patrick Reimer qui a déjoué Talbot d’un tir bas du côté court alors qu’il se trouvait près du cercle de mise au jeu.

  Sinan Akdag, qui se trouvait à l’intérieur du cercle de mise au jeu, a nivelé la marque en logeant la rondelle dans le coin supérieur éloigné du filet alors qu’il restait 2 min 24 s à jouer au deuxième vingt.
