  THREE-GOAL FIRST PERIOD LEADS WHITE PAST TIGERS AT FALL FESTIVAL

  CALGARY, Alta. – Cayley Mercer (Exeter, Ont./Clarkson University, ECAC), Cassandra Poudrier (Lachenaie, Que./Cornell University, ECAC) and Tara Watchorn (Newcastle, Ont./Boston, CWHL) scored 4:04 apart in the first period, giving White all the offence it would need in a 4-1 win over the SEAC Tigers on Thursday night at Canada’s National Women’s Team Fall Festival.

  White made it clean sweep for camp teams on the opening night of games after Red came from behind to beat the Calgary AAA Flames 4-3 in the camp opener earlier Thursday.

  Sarah Lefort (Ormstown, Que./Boston University, HE) scored the other goal for White, while Genevieve Lacasse (Kingston, Ont./Boston, CWHL) made 22 saves and came within seconds of a shutout.

  Mercer opened the scoring at 6:03, driving to the net and redirecting a perfect feed from Victoria Bach (Milton, Ont./Boston University, HE) past SEAC netminder Logan Larock, and Poudrier doubled the advantage with the eventual game-winner just 2:40 later.

  Watchorn’s seeing-eye shot from the point found its way past Larock at 10:07 for a three-goal lead after 20 minutes.

  The White offence quieted down after that, although it wasn’t without its chances; Larock made 15 of his 28 saves in the second period alone as White jumped to a 26-12 advantage in shots on goal through two periods.

  The Tigers started to pepper Lacasse with shots in the third, including an early penalty shot opportunity, but the Olympic gold medal-winning goaltender stood her ground, and Lefort showed off her slick hands to make it 4-0 with 4:53 left.

  It took a 6-on-3 power play in the game’s final minute for SEAC to finally beat Lacasse; Brady Risk buried the rebound off a Eric Welford shot with just 7.2 seconds remaining to spoil the shutout bid.

  White returns to the ice Friday night when it takes on Red in the first of two intrasquad games (8:30 p.m. MT), while the Tigers face off with the Flames in an all-AMHL showdown in the day’s first game (5:30 p.m. MT).

  CALGARY, Alb. – Cayley Mercer (Exeter, Ont./Université Clarkson, ECAC), Cassandra Poudrier (Lachenaie, Qc/ Université Cornell, ECAC) et Tara Watchorn (Newcastle, Ont./Boston, LCHF) ont marqué en l’espace de 4 min 04 s de jeu au premier tiers, aidant les Blancs à l’emporter 4-1 contre les Tigers du SEAC jeudi soir, au Festival d’automne de l’équipe nationale féminine du Canada.

  Les Blancs ont confirmé le balayage de la première journée des deux équipes au camp, après avoir vu les Rouges revenir de l’arrière pour battre les Flames AAA de Calgary 4-3 dans le premier duel jeudi.

  Sarah Lefort (Ormstown, Qc/Université de Boston, HE) a inscrit l’autre filet des Blancs, tandis que Genevieve Lacasse (Kingston, Ont./Boston, LCHF) a réalisé 22 arrêts, passant à quelques secondes d’enregistrer un jeu blanc.

  Mercer a ouvert la marque à 6 min 03 s, fonçant au filet avant de rediriger une passe parfaite de Victoria Bach (Milton, Ont./Université de Boston, HE) derrière le cerbère de SEAC Logan Larock, puis Poudrier a doublé l’avance de son équipe, inscrivant le but qui aura fait la différence, seulement 2 min 40 s plus tard.

  Le tir de Watchorn décoché de la pointe a fait son chemin derrière Larock à 10 min 07 s pour creuser l’écart à trois buts après 20 minutes.

  L’offensive des Blancs s’est calmée par la suite, mais ce ne fut pas sans obtenir de chances. Larock a repoussé 15 de ses 28 rondelles en deuxième période, les Blancs dominant  l’adversaire avec 26 tirs contre 12 au cours des deux premiers tiers.

  Les Tigers ont commencé à diriger plus de tirs vers Lacasse en troisième période, ayant notamment une chance sur un tir de punition, mais la gardienne de but championne de l’or olympique s’est bien défendue. Par la suite, Lefort a mis en valeur ses mains pour porter le compte à 4-0, avec 4 min 53 s au cadran.

  Il a fallu un avantage numérique à 6 contre 3 lors de la dernière minute de jeu du match pour voir SEAC finalement battre Lacasse; Brady Risk s’est emparé du rebond d’Eric Welford pour ruiner le jeu blanc avec seulement 7,2 secondes à faire.

  Les Blancs retourneront sur la glace vendredi soir dans le premier de deux matchs intraéquipes (20 h 30 HR), tandis que les Tigers affronteront les Flames dans un duel de l’AMHL à l’occasion de la première rencontre de la journée (17 h 30 HR).
