  CANADA ROUTS KOREA, ADVANCES TO GOLD MEDAL GAME AT WSHC

  BRIDGEWATER, N.S. – Billy Bridges (Summerside, P.E.I.) had two goals and three assists, and Dominic Cozzolino (Mississauga, Ont.) added a goal and four helpers to pace the Canadian offence to a 10-0 win over Korea in Thursday’s second semifinal at the 2016 World Sledge Hockey Challenge. 

  The Canadians will face the United States in the gold medal game Saturday (5 p.m. AT/1 p.m. PT, TSN).

  It’s the fifth time in the last seven editions of the tournament, dating back to 2009, that the North American rivals will face off for gold; Canada (Nov. 2011, 2013) and the U.S. (2009, 2012) have each won two of the previous four meetings in the final.

  Against the Koreans, Brad Bowden (Orton, Ont.) finished with two goals and two assists, while Rob Armstrong (Mississauga, Ont.), Adam Dixon (Midland, Ont.), and Greg Westlake (Oakville, Ont.) had a goal and two helpers apiece.

  Ben Delaney (Ottawa, Ont.) and Bryan Sholomicki (Winnipeg, Man.) rounded out the scoring for Canada, while Dominic Larocque (Quebec City, Que.) made one save in each period to record the shutout.

  Delaney got the festivities started just 4:38 in, Sholomicki converted on a breakaway opportunity less than three minutes later, and the Canadians were off and running, adding goals by Bridges, Westlake and Bowden to take a 5-0 lead to the first intermission.

  The Canadians outshot Korea 11-1 in the first period, chasing Jae-Woong Lee from the net in favour of Man-Gyun Yu, who didn’t fare much better in the middle frame.

  Armstrong’s wrist shot hit the mesh just 2:24 into the middle frame, Cozzolino got his first of the tournament at 5:43, and Bowden and Bridges both added their second of the game to put Canada up 9-0 after two.

  Cozzolino earned assists on the three goals he didn’t score in the second period, making him just the third player (after Westlake and U.S. forward Dan McCoy), to record at least four points in a single period.

  Dixon capped the scoring in the third period, making good on a Canadian power play with 1:52 left.

  Canada finished 2-for-3 with the power play, while playing a penalty-free game.

  The Koreans will play for the bronze medal on Saturday afternoon, taking on Russia (1 p.m. AT).

  BRIDGEWATER, N.-É. – Billy Bridges (Summerside, Î.-P.-É.) a inscrit deux buts et trois mentions d’aide, et Dominic Cozzolino (Mississauga, Ont.) a ajouté un but et quatre aides pour mener l’offensive canadienne dans une victoire de 10-0 contre la Corée lors de la seconde demi-finale jeudi au Défi mondial de hockey sur luge 2016.

  Les Canadiens se mesureront aux États-Unis dans le match pour la médaille d’or samedi (17 h HA/13 h HP, RDS).

  Il s’agit de la cinquième fois dans les sept dernières éditions du tournoi, soit depuis 2009, que les rivaux nord-américains s’affrontent pour l’or. Le Canada (nov. 2011, 2013) et les États-Unis (2009, 2012) ont chacun remporté deux des quatre rencontres précédentes en finale.

  Contre les Coréens, Brad Bowden (Orton, Ont.) a récolté deux buts et deux mentions d’aide, tandis que Rob Armstrong (Mississauga, Ont.), Adam Dixon (Midland, Ont.) et Greg Westlake (Oakville, Ont.) ont obtenu chacun un but et deux aides.

  Delaney a lancé le festival offensif après 4 min 48 s, Sholomicki a profité d’une échappée moins de trois minutes plus tard, puis les Canadiens ont explosé à l’attaque grâce à des buts de Bridges, Westlake et Bowden pour se donner une avance de 5-0 avant le premier entracte.

  Les Canadiens ont dominé les Coréens 11-1 au chapitre des tirs au but en première période, chassant le gardien Jae-Woong Lee en faveur de Man-Gyun Yu, qui n’a guère fait mieux au deuxième tiers.

  Le tir du poignet d’Armstrong a fait mouche seulement 2 min 24 s après le début de la période, Cozzolino a inscrit son premier but du tournoi à 5 min 43 s, puis Bowden et Bridges ont chacun ajouté leur deuxième du match pour permettre au Canada de prendre les devants 9-0 après deux périodes.

  Cozzolino a obtenu des mentions d’aide sur les trois buts qu’il n’a pas marqués pendant l’engagement médian, faisant de lui seulement le troisième joueur (après Westlake et l’avant américain Dan McCoy) à inscrire au moins quatre points en une seule période.

  Dixon a complété la marque en troisième période en touchant la cible pendant un avantage numérique du Canada à 1 min 52 s de la fin du match.

  Le Canada a inscrit un but lors de deux de ses trois jeux de puissance, et il n’a pas été puni du match.

  Les Coréens pourront tenter de remporter la médaille de bronze samedi après-midi contre la Russie (13 h HA).
