  LIONS KEEP SHOOTING AND KEEP WINNING, BEAT DARTMOUTH TO STAY PERFECT

  QUISPAMSIS, N.B. – Mathias Laferriere and Adam Capannelli had three points apiece, and the Lions du Lac St-Louis made it three wins in a row at the 2016 TELUS Cup with a 7-3 victory over the Dartmouth Major Midgets on Wednesday afternoon.

  The Lions outshot Dartmouth 43-36, hitting the 40-shot mark for the third time in as many games; they had 41 in win over Lloydminster on Monday, and a tournament-high 52 in their Tuesday victory over Saskatoon.

  Azzaro Tinling added a goal and an assist for the Quebec champions, and Alexandre Gagnon, Gabriel Fortier and Kevin Pitts also scored.

  For Dartmouth, Brock McLeod and Matthew Warner paced the offence with a goal and an assist each.

  Laferriere got the opening goal 6:21 into the first period, getting a backhand past Major Midgets goaltender Aidan Hosein with Matthew Pietroniro providing the screen in front, but Luke Henman jumped on a loose puck less than five minutes later to get Dartmouth even.

  The Major Midgets started the second period on the power play, but it was the Lions who scored; Capannelli slid his own rebound under Hosein for a shorthanded goal just 43 seconds into the middle frame.

  Special teams helped put Lac St-Louis in control before the end of the period.

  Gagnon was left alone at the side of the net for a tap-in on the power play at 7:33, and Tinling finished off a set-up from Laferriere and Jérémie Bucheler just 59 seconds later on another man advantage for a 4-1 lead.

  Both teams cranked up the offence in the third period, combining for five goals on 22 shots.

  Laferriere netted his second of the game at 2:57, circling in the offensive zone and picking the corner past Hosein, but Matthew Warner answered 2:17 later on Dartmouth power play to get the deficit back to three.

  The Atlantic Region representatives were within two on another man advantage when McLeod buried a rebound past Lac St-Louis netminder Sandro Silvestre with 7:45 to go, but that would be as close as they would get.

  The Lions finished off the scoring with a pair of late goals; Fortier found the top corner over Hosein at 14:44, and Pitts added Lac St-Louis’ third power-play marker with 2:36 left.

  Lac St-Louis will take its three-game winning streak into Thursday afternoon’s match-up with the North York Rangers (4 p.m. AT) in what could be a battle of the unbeatens, while Dartmouth tries again to get into the win column in the day’s first game, taking on the Lloydminster Bobcats (noon AT).

  QUISPAMSIS, N.-B. – Mathias Laferrière et Adam Capannelli ont accumulé trois points chacun et les Lions du Lac St-Louis ont poussé leur séquence de victoires consécutives à trois à la Coupe TELUS 2016, prenant la mesure des Major Midgets de Dartmouth mercredi après-midi.

  Les Lions ont dominé Dartmouth 43-36 aux tirs au but, fracassant la marque des 40 tirs pour un troisième match de suite; ils avaient bombardé Lloydminster de 41 tirs lundi et dans leur gain de mardi face à Saskatoon, ils en ont obtenu 52, un sommet dans le tournoi.

  Azzaro Tinling a récolté un but et une aide pour les champions du Québec. Alexandre Gagnon, Gabriel Fortier et Kevin Pitts ont également fait vibrer les cordages.

  Pour Dartmouth, Brock McLeod et Matthew Warner ont mené l’offensive avec un but et une aide chacun.

  Laferrière a été le premier à faire scintiller la lumière rouge, à 6 min 21 s du premier vingt, battant le cerbère des Major Midgets Aidan Hosein d’un tir du revers pendant que Matthew Pietroniro obstruait la vue de Hosein. Cependant, Luke Henman s’est emparé d’une rondelle abandonnée moins de cinq minutes plus tard pour créer l’égalité.

  Les Major Midgets ont amorcé la deuxième période avec une supériorité numérique, mais ce sont les Lions qui ont compté; Capannelli a glissé son propre rebond sous Hosein après seulement 43 secondes de jeu dans la période médiane.

  Les unités spéciales ont aidé Lac St-Louis à prendre le contrôle avant la fin de la période.

  Gagnon a été laissé seul sur le côté du but et a poussé la rondelle dans le filet lors d’un jeu de puissance à 7 min 33 s, puis Tinling a complété un jeu de Laferrière et Jérémie Bucheler seulement 59 secondes plus tard, encore une fois en avantage numérique, procurant aux Lions une avance de 4-1.

  Les deux équipes ont produit sur le plan offensif en troisième période, avec un total de cinq buts sur 22 tirs.

  Laferrière a inscrit son deuxième à 2 min 57 s, circulant en zone adverse avant de tirer dans le coin derrière Hosein, mais Matthew Warner a répliqué 2 min 17 s plus tard lors d’un jeu de puissance de Dartmouth pour réduire le déficit à trois.

  Les représentants de l’Atlantique ont réduit l’écart à deux lors d’un autre avantage numérique. McLeod s’est emparé d’un rebond pour battre le portier de Lac St-Louis Sandro Silvestre avec 7 min 45 s à écouler, mais trop peu trop tard.

  Les Lions ont scellé l’issue de la rencontre avec deux buts tardifs; Fortier a atteint la lucarne à 14 min 44 s et Pitts a marqué lors d’un autre jeu de puissance, avec 2 min 36 s à faire.

  Fort de trois victoires de suite, Lac St-Louis croisera le fer avec les Rangers de North York jeudi après-midi (16 h HA) dans ce qui pourrait être un duel d’équipes invaincues. Dartmouth tentera encore de signer un premier gain lors du premier match à l’horaire face aux Bobcats de Lloydminster (midi HA).
