  Weyburn, Sask. – Four minutes, 46 seconds. That’s how long it took for the Brantford Ice Cats to turn a one-goal game into a runaway win.

  A day after scoring a natural hat trick, Nicole Kelly (Brantford, Ont.) had another two goals in leading the Ice Cats past Metro Boston Pizza 4-0.

  It was the team’s second win in a row after a loss on opening day.

  Kelly also added an assist, giving her seven points in her last two games.

  Brooklyn Gemmill (Cambridge, Ont.) and Taylor Trussler (Kitchener, Ont.) each scored their first goals of the 2016 Esso Cup.

  Emma Verbruggen (Ancaster, Ont.) made 15 saves for the shutout.

  Josee Thibeau (Halifax, N.S.) was once again outstanding for Metro, turning aside 31 shots.

  Brantford opened the scoring 15:38 into the first on the power play.

  Paige Cohoon (St. George, Ont.) sent a point shot high over the net; a friendly bounce off the end boards sent the puck back to the side of the net for Gemmill to slide in.

  Brantford dominated possession over the first 40 minutes, outshooting Metro 20-7. Great goaltending from Thibeau – who two days ago turned aside 41 of 42 shots in a 1-0 loss to the Express du Richelieu – continued to keep things close.

  The Ice Cats, though, took control with a three-goal spurt midway through the third.

  Emily Rickwood (Cambridge, Ont.) sent Trussler in alone,  and the speedy forward went forehand to backhand before sliding the puck past Thibeau.

  Kelly then deked her defender and went top shelf glove side.

  Just 1:24 later Katrina Mitton’s (Brantford, Ont.) shot was deflected in off of Kelly.

  Metro has now been shut out two times in three games, and falls to 1-2. It next faces the host Weyburn Gold Wings on Wednesday night (7 p.m. MT).

  The Ice Cats will look to make it three wins in a row in the day’s first game, when they take on the Saskatoon Stars (12 p.m. MT).

  Weyburn, Sask. – Quatre minutes et 46 secondes. Voilà le temps qu'il a fallu aux Ice Cats de Brantford pour transformer une avance d'un but en victoire écrasante.

  Au lendemain d'un tour du chapeau naturel, Nicole Kelly (Brantford, Ont.) a inscrit deux autres buts dans une victoire de 4-0 des Ice Cats contre le Metro Boston Pizza.

  Il s'agissait d'une deuxième victoire de suite de l'équipe après sa défaite lors du premier jour du tournoi.

  Kelly a également obtenu une mention d'aide, ce qui porte son total de points à sept pour les deux derniers matchs.

  Brooklyn Gemmill (Cambridge, Ont.) et Taylor Trussler (Kitchener, Ont.) ont chacune inscrit leur premier but de la Coupe Esso 2016.

  Emma Verbruggen (Ancaster, Ont.) a réalisé 15 arrêts pour récolter le jeu blanc.

  Josee Thibeau (Halifax, N.-É.) a de nouveau été excellente devant le filet du Metro, repoussant 31 tirs.

  Brantford a ouvert la marque à 15 min 38 s de la première période en supériorité numérique.

  Paige Cohoon (St. George, Ont.) a pris un tir du point d’appui haut par-dessus le filet, mais la rondelle a ensuite fait un bond favorable sur la bande pour se trouver à côté du filet, où Gemmill n'a eu qu'à la pousser dans le but.

  Le temps de possession de rondelle a été à l’avantage de Brantford pendant les 40 premières minutes de jeu, où ils ont dominé le Metro 20-7 au chapitre des tirs au but. La superbe performance de la gardienne de but Thibeau – qui avait stoppé 41 des 42 lancers dirigés vers elle dans une défaite de 1-0 contre l'Express du Richelieu deux jours auparavant – a fait en sorte que le match reste serré.

  Toutefois, les Ice Cats ont ouvert les vannes avec une poussée de trois buts à mi-chemin de la troisième période.

  Emily Rickwood (Cambridge, Ont.) a permis à Trussler de s'échapper, et l'attaquante rapide a jonglé du coup droit au revers avant de glisser le disque derrière Thibeau.

  Kelly a ensuite déjoué sa couvreuse, pour ensuite placer un tir dans la lucarne du côté de la mitaine de la gardienne.

  Seulement 1 min 24 s plus tard, le tir de Katrina Mitton (Brantford, Ont.) a dévié sur Kelly et abouti dans le filet.

  Le Metro, qui a maintenant été blanchi deux fois en trois matchs, a désormais une fiche de 1-2. Ses prochaines adversaires seront les hôtes, les Gold Wings de Weyburn, mercredi soir (19 h HR).

  Les Ice Cats tenteront de signer un troisième gain consécutif lorsqu'ils disputeront le premier match de la journée contre les Stars de Saskatoon (12 h HR).
