  D’ANDREA HAS THREE POINTS TO LEAD CANADIANS TO ALL-ONTARIO WIN

  VERNON, B.C. – Brett D’Andrea scored the game-winning goal in the final minute of the second period, and also added two assists to help the Carleton Place Canadians to a 4-2 victory over the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots in the Battle of Ontario on Tuesday afternoon at the 2014 RBC Cup.

  It was the first all-Ontario match-up at Canada’s National Junior A Championship since the Pembroke Lumber Kings beat the Wellington Dukes 5-2 in preliminary round action at the 2011 tournament.

  Vinny Post, Anthony Latina and Luke Edwards had the other goals for Carleton Place (2-1), which bounced back from Sunday’s overtime loss to Dauphin and put itself in position to play in Saturday’s semifinals.

  Edwards was the only other Canadians skater with multiple points, finishing with a goal and an assist.

  Andreas Tsogkas and Marcus Rose scored for Toronto Lakeshore (1-2).

  It took just 82 seconds for the Canadians to open the scoring, and it was a beauty; Post stepped out of the corner, danced around a Patriots defenceman and snuck a backhand to the far side past Evan Buitenhuis for an early 1-0 lead.

  That would be the lone goal in a first period that saw Carleton Place hold a 13-9 advantage in shots.

  Post’s goal would stand up until the 17:32 mark of the second period, when Tsogkas’ wrist shot from just inside the Canadians’ blue-line hit a Carleton Place stick and changed direction, beating Guillaume Therien to tie the game.

  But Anthony Latina restored the Canadians’ lead at 18:31, tucking a rebound around Buitenhuis, and D’Andrea made it a 3-1 game 1:10 after that, ripping a one-timer past the Toronto Lakeshore goaltender on a Carleton Place power play.

  Edwards added insurance 12 minutes into the third period, finishing off a feed from D’Andrea after an end-to-end rush by Owen Stewart on a delayed Toronto Lakeshore penalty.

  Rose capped the scoring with 2:53 left, jamming a loose puck past Therien after a bounce off the end glass.

  Therien earned his second win with a 24-save performance, while Buitenhuis turned aside 29 of 33 in a losing effort.

  The Canadians close out the preliminary round against the Yorkton Terriers in Wednesday’s lone game (2 p.m. PT), while Toronto Lakeshore meets the Vernon Vipers in the round robin finale on Thursday night (7 p.m. PT).

  D’ANDREA ACCUMULE TROIS POINTS ET MÈNE LES CANADIANS À LA VICTOIRE DANS LA BATAILLE DE L’ONTARIO

  VERNON, C.-B. – Brett D’Andrea a marqué le but gagnant au cours de la dernière minute du deuxième tiers et a ajouté deux mentions d’aide pour aider les Canadians de Carleton Place à remporter la bataille de l’Ontario en battant les Patriots de Toronto Lakeshore par la marque de 4-2 mardi après-midi à la Coupe RBC 2014.
  C’était la première bataille de l’Ontario au Championnat national junior A depuis que les Lumber Kings de Pembroke ont battu les Dukes de Wellington en ronde préliminaire au tournoi de 2011.

  Vinny Post, Anthony Latina et Luke Edwards ont inscrit les autres buts de Carleton Place (2-1), qui a rebondi à la suite de sa défaite en prolongation aux mains de Dauphin dimanche pour se placer en bonne position d’accéder aux demi-finales qui auront lieu samedi.  

  Edwards a été le seul autre joueur des Canadians à accumuler plus d’un point, comptant un but et obtenant une mention d’aide.  

  Andreas Tsogkas et Marcus Rose ont marqué pour Toronto Lakeshore (1-2).

  Il aura fallu seulement 82 secondes aux Canadians pour ouvrir la marque et ce fut tout un but; Post a quitté le coin, a contourné un défenseur des Patriots et a décoché un tir du revers du côté éloigné pour déjouer
  Evan Buitenhuis et porter la marque à 1-0.  

  Ce fut le seul but de la première période au cours de laquelle Carleton Place a dominé 13-9 au chapitre des tirs au but.

  Le but de Post allait être le seul au tableau jusqu’à 17 min 32 s du deuxième tiers lorsque le tir du poignet de Tsogkas, qui se trouvait juste en deçà de la ligne bleue, a heurté le bâton d’un joueur de Carleton Place et a changé de direction, déjouant Guillaume Therien et nivelant le pointage.  

  Mais Anthony Latina a rétabli l’avance des Canadians à 18 min 31 s en s’emparant d’un rebond et en poussant la rondelle sur le côté de Buitenhuis, puis D’Andrea a creusé l’écart à 3-1 1 min 10 s plus tard en décochant un puissant tir sur réception qui a trompé la vigilance du gardien de but de Toronto Lakeshore pendant que Carleton Place profitait d’une supériorité numérique.

  Edwards a marqué un but d’assurance à la 12e minute de la troisième période après avoir capté une passe de D’Andrea à la suite d’une attaque qui a vu Owen Stewart remonter toute la patinoire lors d’une punition à retardement à Toronto Lakeshore.

  Rose a inscrit le dernier but de la rencontre alors qu’il restait 2 min 53 s à jouer en poussant une rondelle libre au-delà de Therien après que celle-ci eut effectué un bond bizarre contre la baie vitrée.

  Therien porte donc une deuxième victoire à sa fiche après avoir bloqué 24 tirs tandis que Buitenhuis a repoussé 29 de 33 tirs dans la défaite.  

  Les Canadians joueront leur dernier match de la ronde préliminaire contre les Terriers de Yorkton lors du seul match présenté mercredi (14 h HP) tandis que Toronto Lakeshore affrontera les Vipers de Vernon dans le dernier match préliminaire jeudi soir (19 h HP).
