  MOOSE JAW, Sask. – Dakota Boutin scored at 18:36 of the third overtime period, ending the longest game in tournament history, as the Prince Albert Mintos claimed the 2014 TELUS Cup with a 4-3 extra-time win over the Grenadiers de Châteauguay in Sunday’s gold medal game.

  Boutin’s goal came after 108 minutes and 36 seconds of hockey, surpassing the 102:24 played by the Mintos and Calgary Buffaloes in the 2006 gold medal game.

  After a turnover at the Prince Albert blue-line, Boutin took a pass from Lance Yaremchuk and snapped a shot past an outstretched Étienne Montpetit, igniting the pro-Mintos crowd at Mosaic Place.

  It’s the third time Prince Albert has won Canada’s National Midget Championship, joining 2006 and 2007.

  The goaltenders stole the show for most of the game; Montpetit was a hard-luck loser after a 57-save performance, and his Prince Albert counterpart, Connor Ingram, made 60 shots.

  Châteauguay outshot Prince Albert 63-61.

  Carson Cayer, with two, and Lance Yaremchuk scored the Mintos’ goals in regulation time. Yaremchuk finished with a goal and an assist, while Jared Blaquiere had two helpers.

  Martin-Olivier Cardinal led the Grenadiers offence with a goal and two assists, including the game-tying goal on the power play late in the third period.

  Tyler Hylland had the other Châteauguay goals.

  The Grenadiers opened the scoring just 4:23 when Hylland, sent in alone by Cardinal, went to the backhand and snuck a shot under the pad of a sprawling Ingram.

  But the Mintos answered with two goals in quick succession; Yaremchuk wired a wrist shot under the bar to tie the game at 11:29, followed just 16 seconds later by Cayer, who chipped in the rebound of a Josh Roberts shot, sending the West Region champions to the dressing room up 2-1.

  Châteauguay pulled even five minutes into the second period, and it was Hylland again. The rebound of his shot banked in off a Prince Albert defender, squaring the game at 2-2.

  Cayer restored the Mintos’ lead with just 1.4 seconds left in the middle frame, flipping a backhand at the net that hit the skate of a Grenadiers defenceman and beat Montpetit.

  With the Mintos just minutes away from celebrating a national championship, Chateauguay tied the game on the power play, and it was captain Cardinal doing the honours; he intercepted a soft shot from Samuel Levac and squeezed a shot through Ingram to force overtime.

  The overtime periods were end-to-end action, with both Montpetit and Ingram flashing the leather on multiple occasions to keep their teams in the game.

  After both teams failed to capitalize on power play opportunities in the third overtime, Boutin capped one of the greatest games in national championship history, clinching Saskatchewan’s 14th gold medal.

  MOOSE JAW, Sask. – Dakota Boutin a marqué à 18 min 36 s de la troisième période de prolongation, mettant fin au plus long match de l’histoire du tournoi, et les Mintos de Prince Albert ont remporté la Coupe TELUS 2014 par la marque de 4-3 contre les Grenadiers de Châteauguay au match pour la médaille d’or, dimanche.

  Le but de Boutin après 108 min 36 s de hockey a surpassé la marque de 102 min 24 s, enregistrée dans un duel opposant les Mintos aux Buffaloes de Calgary, au match pour la médaille d’or de 2006.

  Après un revirement à la ligne bleue de Prince Albert, Boutin a accepté une passe de Lance Yaremchuk pour battre Étienne Montpetit qui s’était étiré de tout son long, enflammant la foule à la Mosaic Place qui encourageait en majorité les Mintos.

  C’est la troisième fois que Prince Albert gagne le Championnat national midget du Canada, après 2006 et 2007.

  Les cerbères ont volé le spectacle pendant la majeure partie de la rencontre. Montpetit a été malchanceux dans la défaite, réalisant 57 arrêts, et son homologue, Connor Ingram, a effectué 60 arrêts.  

  Châteauguay a dominé Prince Albert de 63 tirs contre 61.

  Carson Cayer, avec deux buts, et Lance Yaremchuk ont compté pour les Mintos en temps réglementaire. Yaremchuk a cumulé un but et une aide, alors que Jared Blaquiere a obtenu deux aides.  

  Martin-Olivier Cardinal a mené l’offensive des Grenadiers avec un but et deux aides, inscrivant le but égalisateur sur le jeu de puissance au troisième tiers.

  Tyler Hylland a inscrit les autres filets de Châteauguay.

  Les Grenadiers ont ouvert la marque à 4 min 23 s lorsque Hylland, qui s’est échappé à la suite d’une passe de Cardinal, a logé le disque sous la jambière d’Ingram d’un tir du revers.

  Cependant, les Mintos ont répliqué avec deux buts rapides. Yaremchuk a effectué un tir des poignets sous la barre horizontale pour créer l’égalité à 11 min 29 s et 16 secondes plus tard, Cayer, sur un retour de Josh Roberts, a marqué, permettant aux champions de l’Ouest de retraiter au vestiaire en avance 2-1.

  Châteauguay a remis les pendules à l’heure à la cinquième minute du deuxième tiers, l’œuvre de Hylland encore. Son retour a frappé un défenseur adverse et c’était 2-2.

  Cayer a redonné l’avance aux Mintos avec 1,4 seconde à écouler en période médiane, effectuant un tir du revers vers le filet qui a heurté le patin d’un défenseur des Grenadiers avant de passer derrière Montpetit.

  Alors que les Mintos n’étaient qu’à quelques minutes de célébrer un championnat national, Châteauguay a nivelé la marque en supériorité numérique. Le capitaine Cardinal a intercepté un tir faible de Samuel Levac avant de battre Ingram et d’envoyer tout le monde en prolongation.

  Lors des périodes de prolongation, l’action se déroulait d’un bout à l’autre de la patinoire, Montpetit et Ingram s’illustrant à plusieurs reprises pour garder leur équipe dans la partie.

  Après que les deux équipes n’ont pas réussi à toucher la cible sur le jeu de puissance en troisième période de prolongation, Boutin a couronné l’un des plus grands matchs de l’histoire du championnat national, permettant à la Saskatchewan d’obtenir une 14e médaille d’or.
