OFFENCE SHINES AS CANADA BEATS CZECHS IN SUMMER CAMP OPENER

MONTREAL, Que. – Canada got off to the start it wanted Tuesday at Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Summer Development Camp, using high-tempo hockey to top the Czech Republic 6-2 at Concordia University.
Anthony Duclair (Laval, Que./Quebec, QMJHL), Frédérik Gauthier (Mascouche, Que./Rimouski, QMJHL) and Haydn Fleury (Carlyle, Sask./Red Deer, WHL) each recorded a goal and an assist for Canada, while Greg Chase (Sherwood Park, Alta./Calgary, WHL) collected two helpers of his own.
Sam Reinhart (West Vancouver, B.C./Kootenay, WHL), Curtis Lazar (Vernon, B.C./Edmonton, WHL) and Nick Paul (Mississauga, Ont./North Bay, OHL) were the other Canadian goal scorers.
For the Czech Republic, Jakub Vrana and David Pastrnak found the back of the net.
With the Czechs having played Monday night – a 5-0 loss to Russia – the Canadians jumped on their European opponents early, with Reinhart finishing a cross-ice feed from Duclair just 1:05 after the puck dropped.
Duclair stole the show on Canada’s second goal midway through the second period, storming through the neutral zone before deking the Czech defender with a sensational move, dragging the puck from behind and through his skates. He then cut from the corner and snuck his shot through Vanecek’s five-hole.
Vrana and Lazar traded power-play goals in the latter half of the middle frame, keeping Canada up by two goals through 40 minutes. The Canadians owned the second period, holding an 18-8 advantage in shots.
Canada’s lead was four after Paul and Fleury beat Vanecek, and after Pastrnak converted with the man advantage to make it 5-2, Gauthier capped the scoring with 3:26 left.
Zach Fucale (Rosemère, Que./Halifax, QMJHL) and Tristan Jarry (Delta, B.C./Edmonton, WHL) split the goaltending duties for Canada; Vitek Vanecek went the distance for the Czech Republic.
Fucale stopped all nine shots he faced, while Jarry was five-for-seven in his 30 minutes of action.
Canada outshot the Czechs 35-16.
Canada is back on the ice Wednesday in Sherbrooke, Que., taking on Russia (7 p.m. ET), while the Czechs will take a two-day break from game action before taking on the Canadians, again at Concordia, on Friday (noon ET).

MONTRÉAL, Qc – Le Canada a obtenu le départ souhaité au camp estival de développement Sport Chek de l’équipe nationale junior du Canada. Son rythme soutenu lui a permis de vaincre la République tchèque au compte de 6-2 à l’Université Concordia.
Anthony Duclair (Laval, Qc/Québec, LHJMQ), Frédérik Gauthier (Mascouche, Qc/Rimouski, LHJMQ) et Haydn Fleury (Carlyle, Sask./Red Deer, WHL) ont chacun amassé un but et une aide dans le clan canadien, alors que Greg Chase (Sherwood Park, Alb./Calgary, WHL) a récolté deux aides.
Sam Reinhart (West Vancouver, C.-B./Kootenay, WHL), Curtis Lazar (Vernon, C.-B./Edmonton, WHL) et Nick Paul (Mississauga, Ont./North Bay, OHL) ont été les autres buteurs du Canada.
