  WHITE BREAKS TIE WITH TWO GOALS IN NINE SECONDS, BEATS GOLD AT U17 CAMP

  CALGARY, Alta. – Connor Bunnaman (Guelph, Ont./Guelph, OMHA) and Dillon Dubé (Cochrane, Alta./Notre Dame, SMAAAHL) scored nine seconds apart midway through the third period to break open a 5-5 tie, leading White to a 7-5 win over Gold on Sunday night at Canada’s national under-17 development camp.

  A fast-paced game from beginning to end with scoring in bunches, White earned the three points despite trailing 3-0 less than nine minutes in, and giving back a 5-3 lead.

  “I think everybody’s been in this situation before, and especially at this camp you want to show what you can do. Somebody had to come out and that’s what we did,” Dubé said after the game.

  Goals from Barrett Dachyshyn (Halifax, N.S./Halifax, NSMMHL) and Jakob Chychrun (Toronto, Ont./Toronto Jr. Canadiens, GTHL) had Gold ahead 2-0 just 5:09 into the game. Tyson Jost (Kelowna, B.C./Okanagan, BCMML) added a third at 8:33, putting away a fortunate bounce when White goaltender Brody Willms (Coquitlam, B.C./Okanagan Hockey Academy, CSSHL) couldn’t control a rebound.

  After Jost’s goal it was all White, which scored five unanswered goals to take a 5-3 late in the second period.

  Dubé was credited with getting White on the board at 12:11 of the first period, and Alexander Katerinakis (Laval, Que./Laval-Montréal, LHMAAAQ) finished a nice passing play from Christopher Paquette (Kingston, Ont./Greater Kingston, OMHA) to make it 3-2 after one.

  White tied the game at 4:23 of the second after Anthony Salinitri (Windsor, Ont./Windsor, MHOA) won a face-off back to Ryely McKinstry (Calgary, Alta./Calgary Buffaloes, AMHL), who beat Evan Fitzpatrick (Lower Sackville, N.S./Newbridge Academy, NSMMHL) with a wrist shot.

  Paquette added two goals, 2:23 apart midway through the second.

  With Gold down by a pair in the dying seconds of the second period, Michael O’Leary (Halifax, N.S./Salisbury School, USHS) managed to find the bouncing puck in a scrum in front of the net, closing the gap to one at the end of the second.

  Next it was Adam Mascherin (Maple, Ont./Vaughan, GTHL) scoring for Gold at 4:40 of the third period, tying the game at 5-5, setting up the goals from Bunnaman and Dubé that were the difference.

  “My goal came off the fore check, just following the systems we’ve learned this week,” Dubé said. “It’s been a long week; we’re all tired but we’re mentally tough and it was exciting to get that win.”

  CALGARY, Alb. – Connor Bunnaman (Guelph, Ont./Guelph, OMHA) et Dillon Dubé (Cochrane, Alb./Notre Dame, SMAAAHL) ont compté deux fois en l’espace de neuf secondes à mi-chemin au troisième tiers pour briser une égalité de 5-5, menant les Blancs à un gain de 7-5 contre les Or, dimanche soir, au camp national de développement des moins de 17 ans du Canada.

  À la suite d’un match qui s’est déroulé à un rythme endiablé du début à la fin avec plusieurs buts, les Blancs ont ajouté trois points à leur fiche, même s’ils tiraient de l’arrière 3-0 après moins de neuf minutes dans le match et s’ils ont laissé filer une avance de 5-3.

  « Je pense que tout le monde a déjà été dans cette situation et particulièrement à ce camp, tu veux démontrer ce que tu es capable d’accomplir. Quelqu’un devait s’imposer et c’est ce que nous avons fait », a lancé Dubé après la partie.

  Des buts de Barrett Dachyshyn (Halifax, N.-É./Halifax, NSMMHL) et Jakob Chychrun (Toronto, Ont./ Jr. Canadiens de Toronto, GTHL) ont permis aux Or de prendre une avance de 2-0, après seulement 5 min 09 s de jeu. Tyson Jost (Kelowna, C.-B./Okanagan, BCMML) a ajouté un troisième but à 8 min 33 s, s’emparant d’un rebond chanceux que le gardien de but des Blancs Brody Willms (Coquitlam, C.-B./Okanagan Hockey Academy, CSSHL) n’a pu contrôler.
