  MARNER HAS THREE POINTS, RED BLANKS WHITE IN U18 CAMP OPENER

  CALGARY, Alta. – Mitchell Marner (Thornhill, Ont./London, OHL) scored once and added two assists to pace the Red offence as it opened Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team selection camp with a 6-0 win over White on Sunday night.

  Red scored twice in the first period and added four more in less than 12 minutes of the second to earn the victory in the first of three intrasquad games at WinSport’s Markin MacPhail Centre.

  Anthony Beauvillier (Sorel, Que./Shawinigan, QMJHL), Dylan Strome (Mississauga, Ont./Erie, OHL), Graham Knott (Holland Landing, Ont./Niagara, OHL), Jared Bethune (Fort Frances, Ont./Warroad High School, USHS) and Nicolas Roy (Amos, Que./Chicoutimi, QMJHL) also scored Red goals.

  Zach Sawchenko (Calgary, Alta./Moose Jaw, WHL) and Callum Booth (Montreal, Que./Quebec, QMJHL) combined for the shutout in the Red goal; Sawchenko made five saves in close to 31 minutes before giving way to Booth, who was much busier, stopping all 14 shots he faced.

  Red dominated the first period, outshooting White 14-3, and struck first when Beauvillier finished off a feed from Mitchell Stephens (Peterborough, Ont./Saginaw, OHL) at 13:55.

  Strome doubled the lead before the end of the first period, beating Olivier Tremblay (Chicoutimi, Que./Rimouski, QMJHL) off a Marner pass with 76 seconds left in the opening frame.

  The floodgates opened for Red in the second period; first it was Knott at 6:58, converting a breakaway opportunity off Tremblay’s arm and in, followed by Bethune on the power play at 11:22.

  Roy and Marner extended the lead to six with goals just 1:36 apart late in the period, capping the scoring.

  Beauvillier and Knott joined Marner as multiple-point scorers; they both added an assist to their goals.

  Tremblay and Nick McBride (Maple Ridge, B.C./Prince Albert, WHL) manned the net for White; Tremblay allowed three goals on 19 shots, while McBride gave up three on 12 chances.

  Selection camp continues Monday with a 5 p.m. MT puck drop, and caps off Tuesday with an 11 a.m. MT game, after which the 22-player roster will be selected to represent Canada at the 2014 U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup.

Les Rouges l’ont emporté 6-0 sur les Blancs.

  Les Rouges ont fait mouche à deux reprises au premier tiers et ont inscrit quatre buts en moins de 12 minutes en deuxième période pour remporter le premier de trois matchs intraéquipes au Markin MacPhail Centre de WinSport.

  Anthony Beauvillier (Sorel, Qc/Shawinigan, LHJMQ), Dylan Strome (Mississauga, Ont./Erie, OHL), Graham Knott (Holland Landing, Ont./Niagara, OHL), Jared Bethune (Fort Frances, Ont./Warroad High School, USHS) et Nicolas Roy (Amos, Qc/Chicoutimi, LHJMQ) ont également touché la cible pour les Rouges.

  Zach Sawchenko (Calgary, Alb./Moose Jaw, WHL) et Callum Booth (Montréal, Qc/Québec, LHJMQ) ont combiné leurs efforts pour obtenir un jeu blanc dans le clan des Rouges.   Les Rouges se sont imposés en première période, dominant les Blancs 14-3 dans la colonne des tirs au but, et ont été les premiers à s’inscrire au pointage, lorsque Beauvillier a marqué sur une passe de Mitchell Stephens (Peterborough, Ont./Saginaw, OHL) à 13 min 55 s.

  Strome a doublé l’avance des siens avant la fin du premier vingt, battant Olivier Tremblay (Chicoutimi, Qc/Rimouski, LHJMQ) sur une passe de Marner avec 1 min 16 s à écouler au premier tiers.

  Les Rouges ont ouvert les valves en période médiane. Ils ont marqué d’abord à 6 min 58 s, en infériorité numérique, alors que la rondelle a touché le bras de Tremblay avant de pénétrer dans le filet. Ensuite, Bethune a fait mouche en avantage numérique à 11 min 22 s.

  Roy et Marner ont augmenté l’avance à six buts en l’espace de 1 min 36 s en fin de période, scellant l’issue du match.

  Tout comme Marner, Beauvillier et Knott ont connu une soirée de plus d’un point. Ils ont chacun ajouté une aide à leur but.

  Tremblay et Nick McBride (Maple Ridge, C.-B./Prince Albert, WHL) se sont partagé la tâche devant la cage des Blancs. Tremblay a accordé trois buts sur 19 tirs, alors que McBride a accordé trois buts sur 12 tirs.

  Le camp de sélection se poursuivra lundi avec un match à 17 h HR et se terminera mardi avec une partie à 11 h HR. Par la suite, la formation de 22 joueurs qui représentera le Canada à la Coupe commémorative Ivan Hlinka des M18 2014 sera dévoilée.
