  AGNEW SCORES AGAIN, BUT CANADA DROPS WOMEN’S U18 SERIES FINALE

  CALGARY, Alta. – Lindsay Agnew (Oakville, Ont./Mississauga, PWHL) scored for the third consecutive game, but Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team fell short of a three-game sweep of the United States, falling 4-1 in Sunday afternoon’s series finale.

  Despite the loss, the Canadians earned a series win over the U.S. for the fourth year in a row.

  Samantha Cogan (Ottawa, Ont./Nepean, PWHL) and Jaycee Gebhard (Plenty, Sask./Notre Dame, JWHL) were the only other Canadian skaters to record a point, picking up assists on the Agnew goal.

  Marlene Boissonnault (Dundee, N.B./Rothesay Netherwood School, CAHS) gave up three goals on 23 shots in her second start of the series in the Canadian net.

  Alex Woken, Sophie Skarzynski, Grace Bizal and Rebecca Gilmore all scored goals for the Americans.

  For the first time in the series it was the U.S. scoring first; Woken finished off a two-on-one with Alexis Mauermann by snapping a shot past a sliding Boissonnault just 5:58 in.

  But Canada would answer less than five minutes later when Agnew one-timed a feed from Cogan past American netminder Brittany Bugalski on a Canadian power play.

  Canada had plenty of chances to take the lead with the man advantage in the first period; the Americans gave up four power play opportunities in the first 16 minutes, but the game went to the intermission tied 1-1.

  Skarzynski gave the Americans the lead for good just past the midway mark of the second period, beating a diving Boissonnault to a loose puck and poking it past the Canadian goaltender.

  Canada pressed for the tying goal but couldn’t beat Bugalski, who made 24 saves for the win.

  Bizal gave the U.S. some insurance with 3:09 to go, scoring just two seconds after an American power play had ended, and Gilmore found the empty net in the final minute to cap the scoring.

  Canada outshot the U.S. 25-24.

  CALGARY, Alb. – Lindsay Agnew (Oakville, Ont./Mississauga, PWHL) a marqué un but pour la troisième fois en autant de matchs consécutifs, mais l’équipe nationale féminine des moins de 18 ans du Canada a raté son occasion de balayer la série de trois matchs contre les États-Unis, s’inclinant 4-1 dans le dernier affrontement de la série, dimanche après-midi.

  Malgré cette défaite, les Canadiennes ont néanmoins remporté la série contre les États-Unis pour une quatrième année consécutive.

  Samantha Cogan (Ottawa, Ont./Nepean, PWHL) et Jaycee Gebhard (Plenty, Sask./Notre Dame, JWHL) ont été les deux seules patineuses canadiennes à inscrire un point, grâce à leur aide sur le but d’Agnew.

  Marlene Boissonnault (Dundee, N.-B./École Rothesay Netherwood, CAHS) a accordé trois filets sur 23 tirs à son deuxième départ de la série devant le filet canadien.

  Woken a complété un deux contre un avec Alexis Mauermann en décochant un tir derrière Boissonnault, à 5 min 58 s.

  Le Canada a répliqué moins de cinq minutes plus tard lorsqu’Agnew a effectué un tir sur réception, acceptant une passe de Cogan derrière la gardienne de but Brittanny Bugalski au cours d’une supériorité numérique du Canada.

  Le Canada a raté plusieurs occasions de prendre l’avance en avantage numérique en première période. Les Américaines ont joué en infériorité numérique à quatre reprises dans les seize premières minutes, mais la période s’est terminée avec une égalité de 1-1.

  Skarzynski a donné l’avance aux Américaines pour de bon tout juste après la moitié du deuxième vingt en déjouant Boissonnault qui venait de plonger pour immobiliser une rondelle libre, poussant le disque derrière elle. Le Canada a mis l’effort pour marquer le but égalisateur, mais il n’a pas su battre Bugalski qui a stoppé 24 tirs dans la victoire.

  Bizal a fourni une certaine assurance aux États-Unis avec seulement 3 min 09 s à jouer, marquant seulement deux secondes après un avantage numérique des Américaines, puis Gilmore a trouvé le fond d’un filet désert à la dernière minute pour sceller le pointage.

  Le Canada a dominé ses rivales 25-24 quant aux tirs au but.
