  KOHLER SCORES TWICE, WHITE HOLDS OFF RED AT FALL FESTIVAL

  CALGARY, Alta. – Rebecca Kohler (St. Thomas, Ont./University of North Dakota, WCHA) had a pair of goals, including the game-winner, to help White to a win in its opening intrasquad game at Canada’s National Women’s Team Fall Festival, beating Red 5-3 on Thursday night.

  White earned the victory despite giving up three one-goal leads, including two in the first nine minutes.

  Jillian Saulnier (Halifax, N.S./Cornell University, ECAC) and Rebecca Johnston (Sudbury, Ont./Calgary, CWHL) had the other goals for White, which got points from seven different players.

  Saulnier was the only other White skater with multiple points, finishing with a goal and an assist.

  Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, Ont./Brampton, CWHL) scored twice for Red, while Kaleigh Fratkin (Burnaby, B.C./Boston, CWHL) added a goal of her own.

  The goals came fast and furious in the first period; Kohler got the scoring started just 2:18 in, banking a shot off Red goaltender Erica Howe (Orleans, Ont./Brampton, CWHL) on a White power play, but Red responded just 1:48 later when Fratkin scored 10 seconds into a man advantage.

  Saulnier restored the White lead at 7:53, taking a pretty feed from Victoria Bach (Milton, Ont./Boston University, HE) and going to the forehand to slip the puck around Howe, but Rattray’s first goal tied the game just 34 seconds after that.

  Johnston capped a wild eight-minute stretch at 10:32, giving White its third lead of the opening period.

  The offences slowed down in the second period, with just one goal; Rattray’s second of the game at the 7:47 mark brought Red even once again, and sent the game to the final 20 minutes tied 3-3.

  Kohler got the game-winner five minutes into the third period on an unassisted effort, sneaking a shot through Howe, and Heffernan hit the empty net with three seconds left to cap the scoring.

  Jaimie Leonoff (Montreal, Que./Yale University, ECAC) and Emerance Maschmeyer (Bruderheim, Alta./Harvard University, ECAC) shared the goaltending duties for White; Leonoff stopped 12 of 15 shots before giving way to Maschmeyer, who turned aside all eight shots she faced.

  Howe went the distance in the Red, making 18 saves in a losing cause.

  White is back on the ice at WinSport’s Markin MacPhail Centre on Saturday night, taking on Black (7 p.m. MT), while Red will wait for the result of that game to find out who and when it plays Sunday.

  KOHLER MARQUE DEUX BUTS ET LES BLANCS REPOUSSENT LES ROUGES AU FESTIVAL D’AUTOMNE

  CALGARY, Alberta – Rebecca Kohler (St. Thomas, Ont./Université du Dakota du Nord, WCHA) a marqué deux buts, dont celui de la victoire, aidant les Blancs à remporter leur premier match intraéquipe du Festival d’automne de l’équipe nationale féminine du Canada en battant les Rouges 5-3 jeudi soir.

  Les Blancs ont obtenu ce gain en dépit d’avoir alloué trois avances d’un but à leurs rivales, dont deux au cours des neuf premières minutes de jeu.

  Jillian Saulnier (Halifax, N.-É./Université Cornell, ECAC) et Rebecca Johnston (Sudbury, Ont./Calgary, LCHF) ont compté les autres buts pour les Blancs qui ont obtenu des points de sept joueuses différentes.

  Saulnier a été la seule autre patineuse des Blancs à obtenir plus d’un point, terminant avec un but et une aide.

  Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, Ont./Brampton, LCHF) a marqué à deux reprises pour les Rouges, alors que Kaleigh Fratkin (Burnaby, C.-B./Boston, LCHF) a ajouté un but de son cru.

  Saulnier a restauré l’avance des Blancs à 7 min 53 s, en recevant une jolie passe de Victoria Bach (Milton, Ont./Université de Boston, HE) et en déjouant Howe d’un tir du coup droit, mais le premier but de Rattray a égalisé le compte seulement 34 secondes plus tard.

  Johnston a mis fin à une séquence endiablée de huit minutes de jeu à 10 min 32 s, en procurant aux Blancs leur troisième avance en première période.

  L’offensive s’est atténuée en deuxième période, alors qu’un seul but a été inscrit au tableau, le second du match de Rattray à 7 min 47 s ramenant de nouveau les Rouges à l’égalité. Le dernier vingt allait donc s’amorcer avec une égalité de 3-3.

  Kohler a inscrit le but de la victoire sans aide après cinq minutes de jeu en troisième en effectuant un tir sournois derrière Howe, puis Heffernan a touché le fond d’un filet désert avec seulement trois secondes à jouer, mettant un terme au pointage.

  Jaimie Leonoff (Montréal, Qc/Université Yale, ECAC) et Emerance Maschmeyer (Bruderheim, Alb./Université Harvard, ECAC) se sont partagé la tâche devant le filet des Blancs; Leonoff a bloqué 12 des 15 tirs décochés à son endroit avant de céder sa place à Maschmeyer qui a su repousser les huit tirs effectués dans sa direction.

  Howe a monté la garde chez les Rouges, arrêtant 18 tirs dans une cause perdue.

  Les Blancs seront de retour sur la patinoire du Markin MacPhail Centre de WinSport samedi soir, affrontant les Noirs à 19 h HR, alors que les Rouges devront attendre l’issue de cette rencontre pour connaître contre qui et à quelle heure elles reprendront du service dimanche.
