REINPRECHT SCORES LATE, CANADA BEATS HOSTS IN DEUTSCHLAND CUP FINALE

MUNICH, Germany – Steve Reinprecht (Edmonton, Alta./Nürnberg, GER) scored on a power play with 6:09 to go, breaking a 2-2 tie and leading Canada’s National Men’s Team to a 4-2 win over Germany on Sunday in the final game of the 2014 Deutschland Cup.
Despite the victory, Canada finished fourth at the round robin tournament with a 1-2 record, while the Germans earned the championship on home ice at the Olympia-Eissportzentrum with a 2-1 mark.
Kevin Clark (Winnipeg, Man./Hamburg, GER), Bud Holloway (Wapella, Sask./SC Bern, SUI) and Brandon Buck (Delaware, Ont./ERC Ingolstadt, GER) had the other goals for the Canadians, who erased a 2-0 deficit after 20 minutes to get the win.
Germany struck first just past the 13-minute mark of the first period off the stick of Denis Reul, and Patrick Hager beat Canadian netminder Chris Mason (Red Deer, Alta./Augsberg, GER) on a power play just over four minutes later for a two-goal lead after one.
Clark got the comeback started at 15:22 of the second period, and Holloway tied the game just eight seconds into a Canadian man advantage to send the game to the second intermission tied 2-2.
After Matt Pettinger (Victoria, B.C./Hamburg, GER) set up Reinprecht for the game-winner, Buck found the empty net with 55 seconds to go to round out the scoring and cement the Canadian win.
Shots on goal finished even, 27-27.

Malgré la victoire, le Canada termine quatrième au tournoi à la ronde avec une fiche de 1-2 alors que les Allemands remportent le championnat à domicile à l’Olympia-Eissportzentrum avec une fiche de 2-1.
