  CANADA DOMINATES SWITZERLAND IN FINAL PRE-TOURNAMENT GAME

  MONTREAL, Que. – Three goals in 53 seconds late in the second period was the difference Tuesday night for Canada’s National Junior Team, which finished its RBC Road to the World Juniors pre-tournament schedule with a 6-0 win over Switzerland.

  Max Domi (Toronto, Ont./London, OHL) led the way with a hat trick, Anthony Duclair (Laval, Que./N.Y. Rangers, NHL) collected assists on all three Domi goals and Zachary Fucale (Rosemère, Que./Québec, QMJHL) was perfect, stopping all 14 shots that came his way.

  Brayden Point (Calgary, Alta./Moose Jaw, WHL), Nick Ritchie (Orangeville, Ont./Peterborough, OHL) and Jake Virtanen (Abbotsford, B.C./Calgary, WHL) had the other Team Canada goals.

  Canada got on the board first at 13:34 of the opening period, on the power play; Morrissey and Madison Bowey (Winnipeg, Man./Kelowna, WHL) exchanged passes before Point tapped in a cross-crease feed for a 1-0 lead.

  The game was close checking – with only 23 combined shots on goal – until late in the second period, when the Canadian offence exploded.

  Domi scored the first of his three goals at 15:46, snapping a shot under the glove of Swiss netminder Ludovic Waeber, and got his second 13 seconds later when he redirected a Duclair shot.

  Virtanen capped the three-goal spurt at 16:39, slipping past a Swiss defenceman before lodging a shot over the shoulder of Waeber from in tight.

  Canada made it a five-goal lead a little over six minutes into the final period after Ritchie took a pass from Connor McDavid (Newmarket, Ont./Erie, OHL) along the boards before cutting out from behind the net and sliding his shot past a sprawling Waeber.

  Domi finished his hat trick two minutes later, beating Waeber with another wrist shot.

  Canada finished with a one-sided advantage in shots on goal, 43-14.

  With pre-tournament action done, Canada will see the ice at the Bell Centre next on Boxing Day, when it opens the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship against Slovakia (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, live on TSN).

  Max Domi (Toronto, Ont./London, OHL) a mené la barque en réussissant un tour du chapeau, Anthony Duclair (Laval, Qc/N.Y. Rangers, LNH) a obtenu des mentions d’aide pour les trois buts de Domi et Zachary Fucale (Rosemère, Qc/Québec, LHJMQ) a été parfait en arrêtant les 14 tirs dans sa direction.

  Le Canada a ouvert la marque à 13 min 34 s de la première période, en avantage numérique; Morrissey et Madison Bowey (Winnipeg, Man./Kelowna, WHL) se sont passé la rondelle avant que Point ne marque sur une passe qui a traversé l’enceinte pour donner l’avance 1-0 à l’équipe.

  Les joueurs des deux équipes se sont surveillés de près – et n’ont réussi que 23 tirs combinés aux buts – jusqu’à tard en deuxième période quand l’offensive canadienne a explosé.

  Domi a marqué le premier de ses trois buts à 15 min 46 s en frappant un tir sous le gant du gardien de but suisse Ludovic Waeber, puis a marqué son deuxième but 13 secondes plus tard lorsqu’il a redirigé un tir de Duclair.

  Virtanen a mis fin à la poussée de trois buts à 16 min 39 s lorsqu’il s’est glissé devant un défenseur suisse avant de lancer la rondelle de près, par-dessus l’épaule de Waeber.

  Le Canada a pris une avance de cinq buts tandis qu’il ne restait qu’un peu plus de six minutes en dernière période après que Ritchie a accepté une passe sur la bande de Connor McDavid (Newmarket, Ont./Erie, OHL), avant de contourner le filet par derrière et faire glisser la rondelle derrière Waeber étendu sur la glace.

  Domi a réussi son tour du chapeau deux minutes plus tard en déjouant Waeber avec un autre tir du poignet.

  Le Canada a terminé le match avec un avantage bien marqué au chapitre des tirs au but, soit 43-14.

  Les matchs préparatoires étant maintenant terminés, le Canada reviendra sur la glace du Centre Bell le lendemain de Noël lorsqu’il affrontera la Slovaquie (20 h HE/17 h HP, en direct sur TSN), au match d’ouverture du Championnat mondial junior 2015 de l’IIHF.
