  MCCOY’S FIVE POINTS PART OF RECORD-SETTING ROMP BY U.S. IN WSHC SEMIS

  LEDUC, Alta. – Dan McCoy had a goal and four assists, all in the third period, to help the United States earn a spot in the gold medal game at the 2015 World Sledge Hockey Challenge with an 8-0 rout of Korea in Thursday’s first semifinal.

  McCoy set tournament records for points and assists in a period, and helped the Americans set a new mark for fastest three goals (33 seconds). The U.S. also set a record for power play goals in a game, with five.

  The Americans will face the winner of Thursday’s late semifinal between Canada and Russia in Saturday night’s gold medal game at the Leduc Recreation Centre (5 p.m. MT, TSN).

  Josh Misiewicz and Adam Page each added two goals for the Americans, while Kevin McKee, Nikko Landeros and Declan Farmer had one apiece.

  Page finished with two goals and two assists (tying the old record for points in a period), Misiewicz had a goal and two helpers, and Landeros and Farmer added a goal and an assist each,

  The story through the first two periods was Korean goaltender Man-Gyun Yu, who made 22 saves in the opening 30 minutes; only McKee, who converted a cross-ice feed from Landeros on a U.S. power play late in the second period, could find the back of the net.

  But the American offence started to roll early in the third.

  Landeros made it 2-0 at 4:16, circling the net and flicking a shot past Yu with a lacrosse-style move, and McCoy made it a three-goal lead just 24 seconds later.

  That was the end of the afternoon for Yu, who was replaced by 58-year-old Do-Young Shin.

  Shin received a rude welcome; Farmer scored on the first shot directed towards the new Korean netminder, pushing the advantage to 4-0 just past the six-minute mark of the final frame.

  The line of McCoy, Misiewicz and Page took over late, scoring four times – all on the power play – in the last 2:05 to put the finishing touches on a dominant third period.

  The Americans finished with a whopping 38-4 advantage in shots on goal, including 15-0 in the third period.

  Steve Cash earned his second consecutive shutout, needing to make just four saves.

  Korea will face the loser of the Canada-Russia semifinal in the bronze medal game on Saturday afternoon (noon MT, FASTHockey).

  LEDUC, Alberta – Dan McCoy a obtenu un but et quatre mentions d’aide en troisième période, aidant les États-Unis à se tailler une place au match pour la médaille d’or du Défi mondial de hockey sur luge 2015 avec une victoire déroutante de 8-0 aux dépens de la Corée à la première demi-finale de jeudi.

  McCoy a inscrit des records de pointage et de mentions d’aide à ce tournoi, et a aidé les Américains à établir une nouvelle marque du plus court laps de temps pour marquer trois buts (33 secondes). Les États-Unis ont aussi créé le nouveau record du nombre de buts inscrits en avantage numérique dans un match, soit cinq buts.

  Les Américains se mesureront samedi aux vainqueurs du match disputé plus tard en soirée jeudi entre le Canada et la Russie, au Leduc Recreation Centre à 17 h HR; ce match sera retransmis sur le réseau TSN.

  Page a terminé avec deux buts et deux mentions d’aide (égalisant l’ancien record de points inscrits en une seule période), Misiewicz a inscrit un but ainsi que deux aides, puis Landeros et Farmer ont ajouté chacun un but et une aide.

  Le point saillant des deux premières périodes a sans contredit été la performance du gardien de but coréen Man-Gyun Yu, qui a exécuté 22 arrêts au cours des 30 premières minutes de jeu; seul McCoy a réussi à le déjouer grâce à une passe transversale de Landeras effectuée lors d’un avantage numérique américain survenu vers la fin de la deuxième, et à placer la rondelle au fond du filet.

  Mais l’offensive américaine a mis les gaz tôt en troisième période.

  Landeros a monté le compte à 2-0 à 4 min 16 s, en tourniquant autour du filet et en décochant un tir digne du jeu de la crosse derrière Yu, puis McCoy a monté l’avance à trois buts tout juste 24 secondes plus tard.

  Ce fut la fin de l’après-midi pour Yu qui a été remplacé par le gardien de but de 58 ans Do-Young Shin.

  Shin a toutefois reçu un âpre accueil; Farmer a compté lors de son premier tir dirigé vers le nouveau gardien de but coréen, poussant l’avance à 4-0 quelque six minutes après le début du dernier tiers.

  Le trio McCoy, Misiewicz et Page a pris le dessus un plus tard, marquant à quatre reprises – toujours en avantage numérique – au cours des dernières 2 min 5 s mettant la touche finale à une troisième période qui a nettement été sous sa domination.

  Les Américains ont conclu avec un spectaculaire avantage de tirs au but de 38-4, dont 15-0 en troisième période.

  Steve Cash a obtenu son deuxième jeu blanc consécutif, n’ayant eu qu’à réaliser quatre arrêts.

  La Corée affrontera les perdants du match de la demi-finale Canada-Russie lors du match pour la médaille de bronze disputé samedi midi à 12 h HR et diffusé sur FASTHockey.
