DUBOIS SCORES ON OT POWER PLAY, WHITE WINS AGAIN AT U18 CAMP

DAVID BRIEN

CALGARY, Alta. – Pierre-Luc Dubois (Rimouski, Que./Cape Breton, QMJHL) needed only 24 seconds of overtime to convert on a power play and give White a 3-2 win over Red on Monday afternoon in the second of three intrasquad games at Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team selection camp.

White needed extra time for the second day in a row after a 4-3 OT victory in Sunday’s camp opener.

Dubois sealed the deal for White early in the extra frame, taking advantage of a late hooking penalty to Cameron Morrison (Aurora, Ont./Aurora, OJHL) and scoring on a 4-on-3 power play.

After settling for a scoreless first period despite outshooting Red 13-5, White found itself in an early hole in the second when a point shot from Dante Fabbro (Coquitlam, B.C./Penticton, BCHL) fooled an unscreened Dylan Wells (St. Catharines, Ont./Peterborough, OHL) under the blocker.

That would be the lone goal before the teams changed goaltenders midway through the game; Red netminder Carter Hart (Sherwood Park, Alta./Everett, WHL) made 21 saves in his 30 minutes of work.

White tied the game just over seven minutes after Fabbro’s goal when Sam Steel (Sherwood Park, Alta./Regina, WHL) crashed the net and, on his backhand, redirected a perfect saucer pass from Jake Bean (Calgary, Alta./Calgary, WHL) past Evan Fitzpatrick (Lower Sackville, N.S./Sherbrooke, QMJHL).

Both teams struck early in the third. First, a failed clearing attempt from Red ended up on the stick of Pascal Laberge (Sainte-Martine, Que./Victoriaville, QMJHL); he fed Brandon Saigeon (Grimsby, Ont./Hamilton, OHL), who roofed a backhand over Fitzpatrick.

Just 67 seconds later, Red tied the game again thanks to a superb forecheck from Travis Barron (Belfountain, Ont./Ottawa, OHL), who intercepted the puck behind the net and found Nolan Patrick (Winnipeg, Man./Brandon, WHL) for a five-hole one-timer from the high slot.

White held a lopsided advantage in shots on goal, 36-14.

The teams return to the ice Tuesday morning at the Markin MacPhail Centre for the intrasquad finale, with puck drop scheduled for 11:30 a.m. MT.

The final roster for Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team will be announced Tuesday night.

DUBOIS MARQUE EN AVANTAGE NUMÉRIQUE EN PROLONGATION ET LES BLANCS GAGNENT À NOUVEAU AU CAMP DES M18

DAVID BRIEN

CALGARY, Alb.
