LEVEILLE LOOKS STRONG, BUT WHITE FALLS TO FLAMES AT FALL FESTIVAL

JASON LA ROSE

CALGARY, Alta. – Amanda Leveille (Kingston, Ont./University of Minnesota, WCHA) was lights out in her 30 minutes of work, stopping 20 of 21 shots, but White came up two goals short on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Calgary AAA Flames at Canada’s National Women’s Team Fall Festival.

White split its two games against AMHL competition, including a 4-1 win over the SEAC Tigers on Thursday.

Sarah Lefort (Ormstown, Que,/Boston University, HE) scored the lone goal for White, which was outshot by almost a two-to-one margin, 34-18. Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ont./University of Connecticut, HE) took the loss, giving up two goals on 13 shots after replacing Leveille.

The Flames came out with the momentum, outshooting White 13-7 in the opening 20 minutes, but Leveille answered with saves time and time again, including a trio of right-pad stops from in close.

White opened the scoring late in the opening frame; Lefort was parked in front of Luke Eamon and redirected a Laura Stacey (Kleinburg, Ont./Dartmouth College, ECAC) shot past the Calgary netminder at 16:39.

It took the Flames only 2:29 of the second period to tie the game off the stick of Conor Sullivan, who found space through the five-hole of Leveille to draw his team even with the man advantage.

Sullivan, and the Flames’ power play, struck again for the game-winner midway through the third period; Linden Babcock found Sullivan alone at the side of the net, and he one-timed a shot past an outstretched Chuli to put Calgary ahead for the first time.

Tyler Oakenfold capped the scoring with 4:20 left, streaking down the right wing and snapping a shot to the far side on Chuli.

White finishes camp on Sunday morning, meeting Red in the second intrasquad game (9 a.m. MT).

LEVEILLE EST SOLIDE, MAIS LES BLANCS S’INCLINENT DEVANT LES FLAMES AU FESTIVAL D’AUTOMNE

JASON LA ROSE

CALGARY, Alb.
