DIXON COLLECTS FOUR POINTS AS CANADA REMAINS PERFECT

DAVID BRIEN

TURIN, Italy – Adam Dixon (Midland, Ont.) scored twice and added two assists to allow Canada’s National Sledge Team to skate away with a second victory in as many games at the 2015 International Ice Sledge Hockey Tournament, this time a 5-1 win over Italy on Tuesday.

Forwards Brad Bowden (Orton, Ont.) and Tyler McGregor (Forest, Ont.) each collected a pair of assists in the game, while James Gemmell (Quesnel, B.C.), Bryan Sholomicki (Winnipeg, Man.) and Billy Bridges (Summerside, P.E.I.) handled the rest of the goal scoring.

Making his first start of the tournament, goaltender Corbin Watson (Kingsville, Ont.) stopped all but one of the shots he faced to earn the win.

"I thought it was another solid effort from the entire lineup,” said Dixon following the game. “It was a lot of fun to compete against Italy, especially in front of their hometown fans."

Canada did not let itself be overwhelmed by the local crowd, as Gemmell’s goal with 9:01 off the opening period’s clock got the ball rolling.

The red-and-white struck again just over four minutes later, when Bowden’s pass found the stick of Dixon.

Canada’s lack of discipline – three minor penalties in the second period alone – would end up being costly when Italy’s Andrea Chiarotti scored his team’s only goal on the power play, converting at 3:13 of the second frame.

Canada would regain its two-goal lead after Dixon found the back of the net for the second time in the game, minutes before Sholomicki’s power play marker would make it 4-1 after two periods of play.

Bridges sealed the deal when he found the back of the net 3:31 into the third period.

"Our team found a way to battle through some adversity in order to win the game,” said Canadian head coach Ken Babey. “We killed off several penalties and scored some timely goals."

Despite Italy’s goal coming with a man advantage, Canada killed off its other four power play opportunities. Canada would also end the game with a single power play goal on four attempts of its own.

The Canadians will look to improve to a perfect 3-0 on Wednesday when they face Norway at the Palaghiaccio Tazzoli, this time with the puck dropping in Turin at 9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT.

DIXON INSCRIT QUATRE POINTS ET LE CANADA MAINTIENT SA FICHE PARFAITE

DAVID BRIEN

Le match débute à 9 h HE/6 h HP.
