MANTHA AND HORVAT HAVE TWO POINTS EACH, LEAD CANADA OVER FINLAND IN JUNIOR HOCKEY EXHIBITION

ÄNGELHOLM, Sweden – Anthony Mantha (Longueuil, Que./Val-d’Or, QMJHL) and Bo Horvat (Rodney, Ont./London, OHL) had a goal and an assist each as Canada rallied to beat Finland 4-2 on Friday in a 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship exhibition game.

Mathew Dumba (Calgary, Alta./Minnesota, NHL) and Aaron Ekblad (Belle River, Ont./Barrie, OHL) also scored for Canada. Connor McDavid (Newmarket, Ont./Erie, OHL) added two assists.

Finland opened the scoring at 8:34 of the first period on a goal from Juuso Ikonen, and Esa Lindell scored shorthanded at 12:45 to put the Finns up 2-0.

Canada made it 2-1 before the end of the first on Horvat's goal before tying the score just 25 seconds into the second when Dumba scored.

Ekblad gave Canada its first lead of the game at 14:43 of the second before Mantha added some insurance two minutes into the third.

Canada starter Zach Fucale (Rosemère, Que./Halifax, QMJHL) stopped 11-of-13 shots, steadying his play after a rough start.

Ville Husso stopped 20 shots for Finland.

Canada was 0-for-1 on the power play while Finland was 0-for-6.

Canada's second of three exhibition games is Sunday against Sweden in Ängelholm.

The 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship starts Dec. 26 in Malmo, Sweden. Canada plays Germany in its opener.

ÄNGELHOLM, Suède – Anthony Mantha (Longueuil, Qc/Val-d’Or, LHJMQ) et Bo Horvat (Rodney, Ont./London, OHL) ont accumulé un but et une aide chacun pour aider le Canada à effectuer une remontée et battre la Finlande 4-2 vendredi dans un match hors concours du Championnat mondial junior de l’IIHF.

Mathew Dumba (Calgary, Alb./Minnesota, LNH) et Aaron Ekblad (Belle River, Ont./Barrie, OHL) ont aussi marqué pour le Canada. Connor McDavid (Newmarket, Ont./Erie, OHL) a obtenu deux mentions d’aide.

La Finlande a ouvert la marque à 8 min 34 s de la première période grâce au but de Juuso Ikonen, puis Esa Lindell a doublé l’avance des Finlandais à 2-0 marquant en infériorité numérique à 12 min 45 s.

Le Canada a réduit l’écart à 2-1 avant la fin du premier tiers avec le premier but de Horvat avant de niveler la marque seulement 25 secondes après le début de la deuxième période quand Dumba a fait mouche.

Ekblad a donné l’avance au Canada pour la première fois dans la rencontre à 14 min 43 s de la deuxième période avant que Mantha n’ajoute un but d’assurance à la deuxième minute du dernier tiers.

Le gardien de but partant du Canada, Zach Fucale (Rosemère, Qc/Halifax, LHJMQ), a repoussé 11 des 13 tirs qu’il a affrontés, retrouvant son aplomb après un début de match chancelant.

Ville Husso a repoussé 20 tirs devant le filet de la Finlande.

Le Canada a présenté une fiche de 0 en 1 en avantage numérique tandis que la Finlande a remis une fiche de 0 en 6.

Le Canada disputera le deuxième de ses trois matchs hors concours dimanche contre la Suède à Ängelholm.

Le Championnat mondial junior 2014 de l’IIHF s’ouvre le 26 décembre à Malmö en Suède où le Canada affrontera l’Allemagne à son premier match.
