SIX POWER PLAY GOALS LEAD RED TO ROUT OF BLUE AT U17 CAMP

PALMER FRITSCHY

CALGARY, Alta. – Nolan Patrick (Winnipeg, Man./Winnipeg Thrashers, MMAAAHL) scored twice and added an assist, all on the power play, to help Red to a one-sided 8-1 win over Blue on Sunday night at Canada’s national under-17 development camp.

Red took advantage of multiple Blue penalties to dominate on the scoreboard, scoring six times in seven chances with the man advantage, and adding one goal shorthanded.

“[Our line] had three power play goals and I thought our forecheck was pretty good,” Patrick said. “We had them in their zone quite a lot and we just stayed disciplined and capitalized on our power plays.”

Josh Mahura (St. Albert, Alta./Okanagan Hockey Academy, CSSHL) scored Red’s first goal of the night five minutes into the game on a power play, taking the puck end-to-end to beat goaltender Daniel Toews (Chase, B.C./Thompson, BCMML).

But Blue forward Givani Smith (Thornhill, Ont./Mississauga Senators, GTHL) answered back four minutes later with a quick shot on Red netminder Ryan LaFontaine (Mississauga, Ont./Don Mills, GTHL) to make it 1-1 less than four minutes later.

Jesse Sutton (Mount Pearl, N.L./St. John’s Privateers, NLMMHL) tilted the game in Red’s favour late in the first, scoring to make it 2-1 through 20 minutes.

Red controlled the second period, scoring four goals and allowing only two shots. Patrick scored his first of the night 57 seconds in and Boris Katchouk (Waterloo, Ont./Waterloo, MHAO) added his first four minutes after that, scoring Red’s lone goal at even strength.

Jake Kryski made it 5-1 on a passing play with Patrick and Mason Shaw (Lloydminster, Alta./Lloydminster, AMHL) at 9:16 and Patrick added his second unassisted at 11:36 for a 6-1 lead.

With the game well in hand, Tyler Hylland (Mercier, Que./Châteauguay, LHMAAAQ) scored shorthanded and Jonathan Ang (Markham, Ont./Markham, OMHA) added one more on the power play to round out the scoring.

Red finished with a decided advantage in shots on goal , 32-14.

SIX BUTS SUR LE JEU DE PUISSANCE MÈNENT LES ROUGES À UNE VICTOIRE SANS ÉQUIVOQUE CONTRE LES BLEUS AU CAMP DES M17

PALMER FRITSCHY

CALGARY, Alb.
