U.S. SCORES EARLY AND OFTEN, ROUTS KOREA AT WSHC

LEDUC, Alta. – Kevin McKee opened the scoring just 22 seconds in and the United States’ offence rolled from there as the Americans hammered Korea 8-1 on Monday afternoon at the 2015 World Sledge Hockey Challenge.

The U.S. stayed perfect and set up a potential first-place showdown with Canada on Wednesday night.

Brody Roybal and Josh Pauls scored two goals apiece for the Americans, and Adam Page, Declan Farmer and Daniel McCoy did the rest of the offensive damage.

Pauls finished with two goals and an assist, while McKee and Farmer had a goal and two helpers each.

Ju-Seung Lee scored the Koreans’ first goal of the tournament on a third-period power play.

McKee didn’t take long to get the U.S. on the board, taking a cross-ice feed from Farmer, corralling a bouncing puck and beating a sprawling Man-Gyun Yu just seconds after the opening face-off.

Roybal doubled the lead at 9:08 of the first, snapping a shot past Yu on an American power play, and made it 3-0 at 3:17 of the second, going to the left hand from in close to beat the Korean netminder.

The U.S. advantage was four after two periods thanks to Page, who was left alone in the slot to beat Yu.

Pauls took over early in the third; the American veteran raced into the Korean zone and snuck a quick shot under Yu just 21 seconds into the final frame, and lofted a shot from the blue-line that eluded the netminder only 52 seconds later.

Lee broke the U.S. shutout bid at 3:52, roofing a shot over Kyle Huckaby, who had replaced Steve Cash in the American goal late in the second period.

But the U.S. added two more late; Farmer banged in a rebound at 8:00, and McCoy converted a power play opportunity with just 1:57 left to round out the scoring.

The Americans controlled the play from start to finish, holding Korea to only seven shots on goal.

An all-North American showdown is next for the U.S., which faces Canada on Wednesday night (7 p.m. MT), while the Koreans will take on Russia that afternoon in their preliminary round finale (noon MT).

LEDUC, Alb. – Kevin McKee a ouvert la marque après seulement 22 secondes de jeu et l’offensive américaine a dominé à compter de ce moment, écrasant la Corée 8-1 lundi après-midi au Défi mondial de hockey sur luge 2015.

Les États-Unis ont conservé leur fiche parfaite ce qui signifie que l’affrontement contre le Canada mercredi soir pourrait être pour la première place.

Brody Roybal et Josh Pauls ont marqué deux buts chacun pour les Américains, et Adam Page, Declan Farmer et Daniel McCoy ont été les auteurs des autres buts de ce festival offensif.

Pauls a accumulé deux buts et une aide dans le match tandis que McKee et Farmer ont obtenu deux mentions d’aide chacun.

Ju-Seung Lee a marqué le premier but des Coréens au tournoi pendant une supériorité numérique en troisième période.

McKee n’a pas tardé à trouver le fond du filet pour les Américains. Il a capté une passe transversale de Farmer, maîtrisé la rondelle bondissante et déjoué Man-Gyun Yu allongé sur la glace peu après la première mise au jeu.  

Roybal a doublé l’avance à 9 min 8 s du premier tiers en décochant un tir frappé court derrière Yu pendant une supériorité numérique des siens avant de creuser l’écart à 3-0 à 3 min 17 s de la deuxième avec un tir de la gauche à bout portant qui a trompé la vigilance du gardien de but coréen. 

Les États-Unis ont porté leur avance à quatre buts après deux périodes grâce à Page, laissé seul en zone privilégiée.

Pauls a pris le contrôle tôt en troisième période; le vétéran américain a foncé en zone coréenne et a décoché un tir vif sous Yu après seulement 21 secondes de jeu au dernier tiers avant de décocher un tir haut de la ligne bleue pour déjouer à nouveau le gardien seulement 52 secondes plus tard.

Kyle Huckaby qui avait remplacé Steve Cash devant le but des Américains vers la fin du deuxième tiers.  

Puis les États-Unis ont ajouté deux autres buts avant la fin du match; Farmer a fait mouche en s’emparant d’un rebond à 8 min et McCoy a profité d’une occasion de marquer en supériorité numérique pour porter la marque à 8-1 alors qu’il restait 1 min 57 s à jouer.

Les Américains ont contrôlé le jeu du début à a fin, limitant l’offensive coréenne à seulement sept tirs au but.

Le prochain match des États-Unis sera un affrontement nord-américain, car ils joueront contre le Canada mercredi soir (19 h HR) alors que la Corée se mesurera à la Russie mercredi midi à son dernier match de la ronde préliminaire (midi HR).
