Served as head coach of the Swiss National Team from 1998 through 2010, anchoring a three-year tenure when he helped the team climb eight spots to seventh overall in the IIHF World Hockey Rankings … Coached Switzerland to a sixth place finish at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver … Played on Germany’s National Team from 1981-1986, playing in two World Championships

HOCKEY BACKGROUND

Served as head coach of the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers for the 2012-13 season, the 11th head coach in the franchise’s history … Served as an associate coach for two seasons (2010-12) with Edmonton, under head coach Tom Renney … As an associate coach, he was in charge of special teams, helping the team’s power play vault to third in the NHL with a 20.6 percent success rate in 2011-12 … Served as a European consultant with the Carolina Hurricanes from 2005 through 2010 … From 1991 to 1998, was the general manager and head coach of VEU Feldkirch in Austria’s First Division … Between the Austrian, Alpenleague and European titles, he led his teams to nine championships … Played in the German 1st Division from 1979-1989 … Played major junior hockey in the WCHL with New Westminster and Calgary

PERSONAL

He and his wife Glenda, had a son, Justin, who was drafted by Carolina in 2006, and a daughter, Geena … He wrote a German best-seller called “TEAMLIFE – Over Setbacks to Success”

ANTÉCÉDENTS AU HOCKEY INTERNATIONAL

Entraîneur-chef de l’équipe nationale suisse de 1998 jusqu’à la fin de 2010, remplissant un mandat de trois ans au cours duquel il a aidé l’équipe à gravir huit places au classement international de l’IIHF, se hissant au septième rang… Entraîneur de la Suisse aux Jeux olympiques d’hiver de 2010 à Vancouver, C.-B., terminant sixième… A joué au sein de l’équipe nationale allemande de 1981 à 1986, prenant part à deux Championnats mondiaux 

ANTÉCÉDENTS AU HOCKEY

Entraîneur-chef des Oilers d’Edmonton de la LNH pendant la saison 2012-13, devenant le 11e entraîneur-chef de l’histoire de la franchise… Entraîneur associé à Edmonton pendant deux saisons (2010-12) épaulant l’entraîneur-chef Tom Renney… Comme entraîneur associé, était responsable des unités spéciales, aidant l’unité de l’équipe affectée aux avantages numériques à se hisser au troisième rang de la LNH avec un taux d’efficacité de 20,6 pour cent en 2011-12… Consultant des Hurricanes de la Caroline pour l’Europe de 2005 à la fin de 2010… De 1991 à 1998, a été directeur général et entraîneur-chef du VEU de Feldkirch de la première division autrichienne… Il a mené ses équipes à neuf championnats des ligues autrichienne, Alpenleague et européenne… A joué dans la première division en Allemagne de 1979 à 1989… A joué au hockey junior majeur dans la WCHL avec New Westminster et Calgary
